CT Scan = $12,190.16?

I hope some of you in medical fields can answer my question. I was builded over $12,190.16 by a hospital for a CT Scan. Is this excessive ?

Insurance?

Gall bladder surgery = $28k. Oh, no insurance and you're paying cash? That'll be $7k.

yup.
you can spell scan with an "m" too.
it's good to be the insurance company.

Wow. How many different types of contrast didja get?

It's almost as if you're off by a factor of 10 (if not more). Move the decimal point over one digit to the left.

shinrai 09-02-2010 07:33 PM

unbelievable.
I had one done in China and it cost me 8 bucks.

legion 09-02-2010 07:38 PM

You can thank John Edwards for that. ;)

I would call that an error, unless you had some sort of connected procedure such as a guided biopsy, but even then that would be too much. Call your insurance company and the hospital and have them explain that. Most standard CT scans are less than 1000. Even a PET-CT scan should not be that. The hospital may bill that but will never get paid that much.

drew1 09-02-2010 07:55 PM

Danny - Yes, I'm insured.

Noah - Don't know how many contrasts. I was billed $235.32 for radiology, x-ray for broken bones, & the CT Scam was to check for punctured lung or ruptured spleen. I thought the bill was extremely high.

Danny_Ocean 09-02-2010 08:01 PM

Hospital emergency room (for aforesaid gall-bladder pain), 1 hr. + ultrasound = $5700.00.

No insurance? No problem. Give us $2k and we'll call it a day.

So when does Obama-care kick in? That should cover it.

Healthcare is a for-profit industry . . .

. . . but do check for a typo.

So is mine...but I don't give my customers two (extremely) different prices.

I get my prescriptions from WalMart for $4. "F" the pharmacies...can't wait until pharmacists are replaced with vending machines.

porsche4life 09-02-2010 08:46 PM

Danny let me just say that you must not be on many meds if you are getting them all for 4bucks. And it will be a long time before the Pharmacist is replaced. They are already replacing the techs with robots. But the front line with the patient needs to be able to show compassion and understanding. Something a robot can not.

Here in Switzerland, the same Scanner wold have cost you about 900$. Swiss citizen or US tourist, insured or not. Same price.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-03-2010 02:12 AM

A friend of mine had one and paid cash about a year ago - $4k out the door

widgeon13 09-03-2010 03:30 AM

You're paying for the freeloaders that can't pay, simple as that. Obamacare will only make it worse.

Mike C 09-03-2010 04:09 AM

I just had 2 done. 1 with contrast & 1 without. $1725.00 total!!
