Well I'm 53, still in good health. I have enough money that I don't have to work anymore, and I haven't since I turned 50. Thing's don't seem to bother me much anymore. I like to golf so I do, I like to travel, so I do. I'm still to cheap to pay someone to work on the P cars unless its just something I can't figure out. Today I replaced the water pump on the Boxster.

I have lots of friends and family. Life is good.

I hope you chronicle that over in the Boxster forum. I, for one, will read it.

I ran into a county deputy from the past today. (He had once busted my friends and I for drag racing.)

He asked me what I have been doing for the past 20 years or so.

I replied "I haven't done anything fantastic, nobody knows my name."

His response?

'Sometimes that's a good thing".

I think maybe he's right.

As I get older I wish I could some things differently(service, college, pursue music, etc.)

On the other hand, I am happy with my place in the world right now. I'm more concerned about my kids learning right from wrong than I am about what clothes/cars/accessories we have.

And that whole "not giving a hoot what anyone thinks" is a pretty good theory.

Well, I'm happily married, but if I was on the hunt, I'd be hurting. All I see is overweight liabilities. I should know, as a contractor, I've seen my share of society.

To the OP. 40 is the old age of youth, and the youth of old age. I have known people who were washed out by 30, and people who are still young at heart in their 80s. The trick is to follow your bliss.

Life is Good, and I have the T shirt to prove it. Maybe you just need a new T shirt. In any case, you get to a certain age, and hormones start to drive you less. Things get weird, and then you wonder if there are things in life up with which you will not put. Then you start thinking about all the stuff you never allowed yourself to do. After a flurry of activity, maaaybe you realize that it doesn't take a lot to be happy... But - You still want to do things anyways. Maybe you see that you are more like yourself than you have ever been, and it is time to do some house cleaning, while keeping the best of the good stuff.

And then you just stop worrying about it and get on with it. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow's a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why they call it The Present.

Once you realize that the meaning of life is to find meaning in life, it is just a matter of time.

Or not.

As I grow older I have come to believe in the here after...

I keep walking into a room and wondering "what am I here after?"

Age

I've known a lot of smart people but only a few people with wisdom -- Old -young it doesn't matter. Wisdom is simply learning from living and observing. Age is something you do -like it or not - that is if you are lucky.

The key to enjoying life at any age is in the details and accepting the inevitable change - some good -some bad-but it is the only constant in life.

Age really is a state of mind -- yeah you gotta take a little better care of your self and know your limits - but for me at least it appears stay active and that does not need be working - the old move it or lose it seems to hold some water when it comes to the aging thing.

I for one think one is only as old as one thinks he/she is. I still feel like the 20 year old guy I used to be -but the 55 year old in the mirror doesn't quite look to be the same dude. Since u can not go back - live in the now works for me. It is one strange, beautiful ride at any rate.

One of my guys at work (48) brought his father (70), who is visiting from Georgia, in to meet us. His father has the sort of twinkle in his eye that I've seen in a hundred 4 year-olds. Good for him!

Attitude is everything.

I just saw another positive in the mail. Almost once a month some investment advisor invites me to a FREE dinner for two to a local fancy restaurant. Today it was a lawyer that specializes in trusts. I never got those invites when I was a young pup.

You have all the crap you ever wanted.
You can cut in line at the grocery store if you just act oblivious.
The next time you have to move, you won't remember it.
It's easier for the nurse to find a vein.
You eat breakfast for dinner.

See lots of good stuff.

Yeah, but hopefully you ain't stupid either. A buddy has screwed up two marriages and a decent job because he seems to think every piece of ass he gets is the last piece on the planet. Women make up over 50% of the population - there's no need to swim through ***** with your mouth open trying to get just one. As a friend of mine explained in our 20s - the sex drive is the 2nd strongest drive in humans, after self-preservation; that means a large portion of the female pop want to have sex and your job is to let nature take its course.

Foolish on occasion I am sure, but usually not stupid. And happily married & happily monogamous as well. I do not envy those that are old & single.

Most of the above and one last thing.

YOU ARE STILL ALIVE! The others of your era are not and the one thing that they do not tell you when you are a youngster is that if you survive you will be going to a lot of funerals.
