Resume help

Does anybody know of a person or a company or website, that can help me with writing my resume and wont charge an arm and a leg. LOL.. I'm trying to apply for a federal job and I'm just having a hard time figuring out what to write and how to write it.

Jonathon

You might start out by registering with Career Builder . Com, they offer a free resume service, that will point out some of the weak areas in your resume. Do not pay anyone a lot of money to write your resume, please.

i got books on how to write a resume and i googled it .. but mainly having trouble with the job duties and accomplishments and stuff like that... i'm an army medic... and all i can think of is i start iv's and take care of people who go to sick call.. and when in iraq i do battlefield treatment... guess i just have a bad habit of down playing what i've done.... i'm more of a guy that gets recommended for a job and gets hired through the "using friends network".. i got told of this opening and recommended that i apply for this job by a couple of people... but i didnt know i had to have a resume and all that... my fault for not being ready.. really bad part is that the job announcment closes in 8 days..

Not sure what you consider an arm and a leg though.

Go see your DAV rep, they will help you for free. Other than that when applying for a Federal position just remember they scan (screen) them with a computer first. Make sure you use the job description wording and keywords. Don't downplay what you have done, use alternate wording to get what you want.

Watch out for the "we have experts who will rewrite your resume for $200" scams. Focus on what you have accomplished, not just positions held and dates. Use verbs such as "built, managed, supervised, reduced, improved", make it interesting to read. Probably keep it to 2 pages and don't list hobbies, references or objective. Just my .02 worth...

The link I posted is legit.

Owned by a former coworker who was our VP of HR.

She's held high level HR gigs at several large corporations.

She knows her stuff.
