Can I use my digital camera as a web cam?

I have a golf analysis video program. Goes on computer, you hook a video cam up to it, you can then watch in slo mo, draw lines, etc.

My little digital camera (Nikon Coolpix S220) can take and record video. I'm trying to get it to work, but it won't. When I plug the camera into the computer, it shuts down/closes the camera lens and goes into a "download pictures" mode.

So, I think, I'm trying to use the Nikon as a "webcam"? (Not sure if that is the right terminology).

Is this possible?

probably not, a webcam delivers live video, and as such has to be recognized to Windows or Linux, as a webcam, which the Nikon probably doesn't do.

But maybe it doesn't have to be a webcam to work in the Golf program.
Does it allow you to open up a video on disk? if so, what format?

if it does, and you can convert the output of the nikon, to the same format as the golf program , you're in business.

Generally it is possible to use digital cameras as web cams but yours sounds like it's trying to be "helpful" by assuming you want to download when it sees the USB connection.

A quick google returns some "no' results.

Thx. I am using the V1 Home Premium golf program V1 Pro - the #1 Video Analysis Software in Sports

I did a google search, and it seemed to say "no" for using a nikon digital camera, but most of those posts seemed 5+ years old. Seems like there should be some software or way of doing it!

some Nikons CAN do this - the higher end, newer DSLRs can - Nikon calls it Live View and then you need to buy some ($$$) add-ons also

IIRC, some of the Coolpix line can also - call up Nikon's Tech Support 800 # -- it has been an outstanding resource for me for 30+ years

You can probably record first and then run the video through the program.
