Info request - vacation info - Chesapeake Eastern Shore

Some of you may know that my daughter is headed to the Naval Academy in late June. As we are from Cali, she wants to go a week early to acclimate, get used to the time change and the weather. So, anyone know if the Eastern Shore is a good place to vacation in late June? Is this something people do? Obviously there's no surfing - are there many other vacation kind of things to do/see for a family? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.

It's a nice place, but hot and humid in June. I think the Eastern Shore has a different vibe than Annapolis does, so you'll need to decide which end of the Bay Bridge you'll want to be on. That bridge can really suck on Fridays and Sundays. Seahawk and Berretafan would be the ones to ask about this.

So what would be the nice place in that general part of the country. BTW - while I don't like humidity, that is what she want to work out in, if that makes any sense.

Well, that is a very pretty area, no question about it. There are lots of beach towns farther east, which should be less humid - Ocean City, MD, Dewey and Bethany Beach, Lewes, DE, . St. Michaels is amazing too. That's where they filmed a lot of Wedding Crashers. Seahawk lives in a super nice area too, but I don't know if there's anything to do there other than shoot on his farm. My favorite area near DC is Middleburg, VA, which is horse country. I doubt your daughter is going to get much sightseeing in during her Plebe Summer. It's gonna be tough no matter what climate she's used to.

No, you're right - no sight seeing during Plebe Summer, 'cept the guy in front of her!

PM with your phone number and I'll give you a call. Unless you want to spend the time at the beach, the eastern shore is fairly rural. There is average surf in Ocean City, etc.

I think your plan of getting out here a week early is excellent...I moved from California to South Carolina in HS, just in time for football practice in August. I almost died and I was in great shape.

Air you can wear.

You're from Cali? I thought your avatar said SoCal. Cali is at the north end of Napa Valley. Seems like a lot of people are from there that came from somewhere else before going to Cali.

I know natives of Cali are extremely difficult to find.

Oops - internet faux paux??? I thought they were synonymous.

So -Cal: the I.E. to be exact. The 909... Twice the house for half the price - don't mind the gangstas!

Nonetheless, a long way from MD.

Don't worry, David. Just bustin' your chops about the use of "Cali." It's a little cuteness that has popped up. I sort of associate it with someone calling us the land of fruits and nuts. IOW, if yoy say Cali, you aren't a native.

Now, back to the regular scheduled program. And I'll bet those folks in New England are pretty sensitive to what reference is used. I think if I lived there, I'd have to live near the beach.

Two years ago I started a thread about visiting DC and the general area to the north. Paul was very helpful.

"if yoy say Cali, you aren't a native. "

sort of like calling San Francisco "Frisco" I guess.

Some people tend to make too much of nothing.

Nah - need to be knocked down a little from time to time. Thought So Cal was getting old.

BTW - a public thank you to Seahawk Paul - I think we've got a plan now!

Oxford,md

I lived in Oxford,Md. It is the oldest incorporated town in Maryland.Get there via Bay bridge to Easton,Md and back west to Oxford.Beautiful homes and deep water moorings brings world class boats to anchor there.Take the oldest car ferry across the Tred Avon river to St Michaels for enjoy some very good sea food and you can be back in Annapolis by dinner. The drive is beautiful and I can`t say enough about the restored Victorian homes along Morris st. If you are at all into sailing, visit Cutts and Case boatyard and museum. They restore wood boats from all over the world.Hinkley is there as well and they have top of the line power and sailboats.Midshipman know where the Tred Avon YC is,as they bring there boats to compete during the summer and fall series. If you're into old time decoy's and history of gunning the Cheasapeake, check out my buddy's store:

Jeff is an ex-waterfowl biologist...we hunted the Salton Sea and surrounds for Ducks and Geese 20 yrs ago. A wealth of info. Plus he's got some pretty cool Black Labs!
