On a similar note, why the love-fest with sunroofs? They add weight, they reduce headroom, they leak, they're noisy, and I rarely see people use them.

so the bottomline here......................if yer "bald" buy a COUPE! (sunroof delete) LOL!

Which presupposes that given a choice of another wife or a cab we would choose the wife.

Oh puleeze......the cab doan argue with me and doan complain when I want a late night ride.....plus the dog can ride in the passenger seat.

Yeah, they are a good compromise if you use them. I use mine a lot. Thought I would get a sunroof coupe and sell the Targa, but then I kept the Targa.

I like sunroofs that are up in front of your eyes, like the 911. I never used the sunroof on my 951, because I had to look up and back. no sensation of open air motoring, just a lot of buffeting. I use the sunroof in my 928 as well.

I never put the top up on the Miata or the Targa unless I am caught out.

its personal taste. i am one the people who hate verts. well not really 'hate', i just think they are butt ugly.. not just P cars, but any kind. i have not seen one yet that looks half way decent to me and especially compared to the coupe version. i hate even riding in them. feel like like im in a fishbowl and everybody is looking in. i dont mind targas, sunroofs (although in 5 years, i have never opened the one in my M3) because you have some sort of metal behind you.

GH85Carrera 09-21-2010 02:00 PM

About the only time I open my sunroof is to let more light into the car if someone is taking a picture of me driving the car.

RWebb 09-21-2010 07:06 PM

somebody needs to post a poll on this stuff

fer the record, I use my sunroof all the time

it is my compromise between a flexy flyer targa* and a solid roof lighter coupe

* and I am surprised that nobody has yet quoted that quote re targas being preferable on the track

ODDJOB UNO 09-21-2010 07:26 PM

from my scientific calculations, having a full head of HAIR, adds to the aerodynamics in a CAB!

now in a pca showroom stocker pos WE ARE GOING FAST E-NUFF TO KILL OURSELVES...........but fer sure NOT FAST ENOUGH TO EVER 'FLEX"!

at 2820# w/me in car and a 1/2 tank go-go juice, i dont think we will EVER ENTER ZONA DE VOODO FLEXY FLYER.

if someone can show me a pic of a cab "FLEXING" i sure as hell wanna see it.

and when it "FLEXES" just where does it "FLEX" and for how long? or is it once "FLEXED" its always "FLEXED"?

is there like a "UN-FLEXING" SHOP we can go to?

does it cost much to "UN-FLEX" one?

how many times can you "UN-FLEX" them?

are "FLEX-CAPACITORS" needed?

is it anything like "FLUX?"

can you use it in a sentence? like "GO FLEX YOURSELF?" or "FLEX or FLUX OFF!?"

or "i was overcome with "VERT-FLEX" and thats why i crashed into you or the wall!"

A man shouldn't have to choose. One of each.

That's the route I took! :)

The fact is, saying you drive a coupe for the improved chassis dynamics just lets guys play into the fantasy that most sports car owners cherish - that they're driving gods who can exploit every ounce of performance their car offers and can't be denied one iota lest their talents outstrip the car's and disaster ensue. Which is why so many middle-aged guys have written off Enzos, Carrera GTs, and Veyrons.

The chassis dynamics arguement rings hollow when your typical Boxster or Z4 roadster is twice as stiff as 30 year old 911s their detractors cherish. The roll-over arguments are equally flaccid in this day of airbags and roll-over bars, especially since roll-over accidents aren't exactly as common if you're not guest starring in an episode of "The Rockford Files." You could flip a 2003 Z4 roadster over and stack a 1989 Porsche 911 coupe on the understray and still not collapse the windshield pillars.

Clear away all the blather and really, it's just that some people prefer coupes to convertibles. Humans like to make a decision and then re-arrange the facts to suit it.

ODDJOB UNO 09-22-2010 10:00 AM

hell the IDIOT MORON that told me and i quote "you cant race a cab because they FLEX" is now going BANKRUPT(documented not alleged), due to his brillant mensa einstein IQ on what you can or cannot do.

i guess ya CANT play MONOPOLY on CREDIT CARDS and BANK LOANS AND NOT PAY THEM BACK in a TIMELY MANNER! LMFAO! the ULTIMATE SAWED OFF DUM-AZZ!

butt i sure as HELL CAN AND WILL RACE MY POS CAB and not go BANKRUPT!

and the same goes for "ya cant race a targa". hell i have seen some WAYYYYY BAD-AZZ TARGAS with VERY ACCOMPLISHED DRIVERS tear hell out of the prim and proper "sunroof delete" snob crowd.

each to his own. none of us here are ever racing F-1 or LEMANS in our lives.

"FLEX THIS MO-FO!"
