IE search aborted pop up message.

on the home computer, i keep getting a gray pop up box with a green OK button, that basically says internet explorer can not connect to whatever website and the search is aborted. click OK and the page goes to the usual cannot find website page. it blocked pelican this morning, so it's getting serious. what's the fix?

Danny_Ocean 09-22-2010 09:47 AM

Could be malware. Are there any other messages present in the box? Any other odd computer behavior?

First thing I would do is download another browser like opera or mozilla to try and see if the problem is browser specific. If it is, I would dump IE and never look back.
If not, then further investigation will be required...

Try firefox.....

You can run this free program to look for and eliminate any malware. I use it and it works great:

Malwarebytes

i did a malwarebyte update this morning and no different. it did fix another malware problem in the past. i have firefox and it works ok, but of course my favorites don't display. is the favorite file transferrable to firefox? rather keep IE if it's fixable.

I had a similar problem yesterday with the Pelican site. Everything else worked fine. I switched to safari from IE and everything was fine
