Poor Humming Bird, Never Saw One Up Close But This Isn't The Way I Wanted To...

Maybe because they are so fascinating to watch but Humming Birds always make me smile when I see one until today. I came upon this one as I was walking to my building today. Not sure if he had a heart attack, a bad nectar fix or hit the side of the building. I have never seen one up close like this. Very delicate. His wings are transparent. You don't see many green colored birds in North America either.

with his wings spread out like that, I wonder if he'll still glide like a balsa wood plane?

(poor guy)

we have hummingbirds that nest in a tree in my front yard.
They are aggressive as hell when you walk too close to the nest, they like to dive bomb your head.
They sound like a bullet wizzing by

Don't waste it, that'll make a great hood ornament.

We have lots of birds around here, and I love humming birds. Every afternoon I have to go out to hold the hammock down on the patio for about 45 minutes to keep it from flying away. While I'm there, the humming birds always have to come to inspect me. The saddest thing I saw one time related to humming birds was one in a nest by a trail in the mountains. It didn't fly away when I approached. When I got close enough, I could see it was setting there dead. I don't know if there were eggs under it, since I just left it like that.

They are very beautiful birds. It's in great shape.

That one looks like it vapor locked in flight.

I'd find a taxidermist with small hands.

My parents had a humming bird feeder, I found that if I stood perfectly still they would ignore me. Got to where I could stand two feet from the feeder and watch them.

I thought it would be fun to put a feeder on my second story porch... as someone said they are very territorial... I ended up having hummingbird dogfights in my backyard! Very entertaining but not what I had in mind.

Strangest thing I have seen one do... I was hiking through a field and a few hummingbirds were feeding on the wildflowers. One suddenly came to a sudden complete stop, hovered motionless for a second, then shot straight up like a rocket and disappeared into the clear blue sky... weird.

Those things are all over here. I recon the feeders might have something to do with that. I'll sit on my porch and they will buzz up very close to me and just check me out. We either have several green ones or the same one several times.

For some reason when I live in NC, they used to fly into our garage all the time. Had a hack of a time getting them out without hurting them.
