Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps Terrible
Went and saw the new Wall Street movie. Maybe my memory is going away, but I remember the original Wall Street as being a descent movie and thought this one was ridiculous. Actually considered getting up and walking out, but thought it must get better and it never did.
Oh yeah, and the soda was $5.44, pretty sad. Blockbuster just closed here in town and I don't think all the movie theatres will be far behind. Sorry for the rant, have a great Sunday! |

I can't see how it could possibly be good.
And I assume the producers were more interested in beating you repeatedly with an incorrect point of view over telling a decent story.

There were a lot of ways they could've made it better, but they didn't. The plot at the beginning was good, but the lead actor was milk toast (don't know his name). Bad guy was great, they just didn't develop the story line too well past the first 30 mins. And yes, they played on debt and economic doom.
And it's an Oliver Stone film (he makes a couple cameo appearances)! I go to the theatre to see a movie once per year, thought this would be descent, but not! |

I had some suspicion that this would be a not-so-good movie. Thanks for the heads up, it will save me the admission.
The reason I had my suspicions were in the reviews yesterday. Writers mentioned "loud" and "spectacular cinematography." The latter was referring to helicopter shots on Wall Street, Manhattan in general, that sort of thing to suggest the magnanimous setting of what had to be a magnanimous story. You usually don't get 2 magnanimous events in the same can. So, while you apparently got a nice travelogue of New York, you got a soap opera with too many mini-crisis plots and no depth. |

BTW, it's "milquetoast."
define:milquetoast - Google Search This is "milk toast." Milk Toast Recipe -- Mr Breakfast Although the 2 have been confused for so long that many people do what you did. |

I REFUSE to watch any movie with Shia Lebeouf in it. I really don't like his 'acting' period.

The shots at the beginning of the movie are great. My wife was getting dizy watching them. Very good stuff. Best acting was by Gordon's daughter, which is the main plot of the movie. She doesn't want anything to do with him since he was in prison. Her boyfriend is a wall street guy that get's them speaking again.
Gordon had set aside a $100 million trust fund for the girl, that she really didn't care about. Gordon get's back on her good side and you can guess what happens. Boyfriend thinks he's gonna get the money and Gordo steals it from them. Makes a billion, gives them back their $100 million, so they can invest it in a green energy start up in California. They added a lot of little sub plots that could've been great movies in themselves, but never developed any of them. Good guys, bad guys, everything was there, just not good enough to watch for 2 full hours. Gordon had some good one liners, as always. |

Good synopsis. I've read the story line(s) on the Net.
I'm just curious as I hate to go to a movie house anymore. I don't like the volume. There's no need for volume in a movie like Wall Street. How did they handle that? How did Stone use the camera? Lots of close in shots? What's unique about this movie that isn't going to get usual notice? Or am I looking for something too deep here? Used to be that one could go to a movie and come out stunned and speechless. Or sore from laughing. Or red eyed from crying. But, when a movie left me speechless, I always gave that one my 2 thumbs up. Since about 20 years ago, I've walked out on more than I've stayed. None have done much for me. It's not like you're gonna see a "Lemans" ever again. Or "The Silence of the Lambs." (1991) The original "Wall Street" was captivating. It was portraying. It let you live on Wall Street and out on the Hamptons (or wherever). I guess this new movie just doesn't bring that. |

Lets see, Oliver Stone directing, tired rehashed plot, washed up actor. How could it be bad?

Volume wasn't too bad other than during the previews. It was just a regular movie, if I didn't know it was Oliver Stone, I wouldn't have a clue as to who directed it. His older movies were always something special, but not this one. I'm going to watch the original Wall Street with the wife tonight.

Whom are you calling "washed up?" Certainly not Douglas. He may be half dead, but he's been very good as an actor, even just recently.

Caspar Milquetoast was a cartoon character from before my time, his last name being a joke referring to his milk toast like timidity. Now of course his name has outlasted his fame, but the cartoons are still interesting if you can get a hold of some.

I think you're misinformed. If you read my links you would see that Caspar is mentioned.

I think some things are better left for a younger crowd. A lot of stuff would still be interesting to me if it still was a novel concept to my well worn eyes. This will all be new territory for a lot of Shia fans.

Last night I was very close to making this the first movie I've willingly gone to see in several years. My normal rule is that I refuse to see any sequels or remakes, even once on dvd. This one had me interested enough to get up and pay the obscene cost of movie tickets these days. But wifey didn't want to go. Looks like I may lift a finger to rent it when it's on DVD. I wish Blockbuster weren't going away. I refuse to use Netflix because of their obnoxious pop-ups that defeat every pop-up blocker out there. I went to prep school with the real Gordon Gecko's boys at the time the true story was still playing out. Sounds like the sequel has even less to do with the aftermath than the original had to do with the insider trading scandal of 1986.

My wife really wanted to see a movie this afternoon and I have always liked M. Douglas, hated Oliver Stone, but I went. It was soooo long and predictable, if we were watching it at home we would have shut it off. I didnt see anyone get up and leave but at the end I heard someone say, "who writes this crap",

not many good movies out right now...made the mistake of seeing The Other Guys last night. I've never been more miffed at spending less than $20 before that movie. Should skip DVD and be released directly to the sewer... and that's being nice.
