Stink Bugs are GROSS
 

I have been catching stink bugs all summer by placing those draping bug traps under my outdoor lights.

I want to step it up to a bug zapper. Anyone zap the stinkers with a zapper?

Never seen a cockroach fly and I don't ever want to see or know they can.


Edit: Did a search and I guess some can fly, but not the ones I might encounter. Long Beach is full of Oriental Waterbug Roaches. They live outside and in the sewers. Big suckers reaching an inch and a half in length.

i have never seen a cockroach that didnt fly...

late at night, in the dark, walk into a room and flip the light on and ~~FLASHBACK~~ you will trip over / break anything in your path as you head for cover as they sound like a fully loaded uhey heading for the DZ behind enemy lines.

bug zappers will kill the predatory bugs that eat the stink bugs - so you may actually wind up with more sting bugs than before

On the west coast, stinkers and roaches crawl......must be a regional FAA thing.

I've never seen a water beetle eaten by anything. Whatever its natural predictor is, I feel sorry for it.

birds, fish, bull frogs, etc.

they are predators themselves - not sure if they have any insect predators

BTW - it sucks to be a pint-sized predator - you have to go out and hunt, BUT something is hunting you while you are hunting...

The Stink Bug doesn't have any predators in North America. Plus that logic is flawed. A zapper would kill them all. I would prefer to kill all the bugs but especially Stink Bugs.

I have been catching stink and all other bugs on these sticky traps LIKE CRAZY however my friends zapper was going nuts the first night he had it. I just want one that has openings big enough to allow stink bugs in.

CLIFFS: Stink bugs came to the US from China in 2003. They are not cockroaches. They were first seen in Allentown, PA and have slowly been traveling on cars around America. If you haven't seen one yet you will. We need to find a way to get rid of them because they cause massive crop and plant damage.

some species (and genera) of the things called stinkbugs are indeed Asian, BUT others are native to North America

actually, your logic is flawed - a zapper will only kill bugs in the immediate area; then the area will be recolonized by bugs from nearby - the best recolonizer will be there the "firstest, with the mostest" of its friends -- if that is the predator (unlikely) then great; more likely it will be the bug your tried to get rid of (prey)

you can always try a zapper and see what happens - it is late in the year, so they will all be gone soon anyway in most places

IIRC, there are 2 species of exotics in different genera - they do indeed cause plant damage - they pierce the plant tissue and suck out its "juice"

the exotics and the natives are becoming more & more of a problem due to global warming - it allows them to have more generations per season in much of their range

also, I think these really are bugs (i.e. Hemipterans)
