we found out. refinanced the house recently. the appraisal came in at $100,000 less than it was appraised at 3.5 years ago.

good luck on the sale. the 944's do really well in snow with the proper shoes.

Best of luck. A good realtor may give you some assistance, but virtually all of the housing news I see these days still says it's a strong buyer's market.

Around here, it depends on the price. If the house is listed below $200k it sells reasonably fast. In the 400-700k range expect to wait a couple years.

While I know the 944 is good on snow tires, we are moving to NC and I would rather avoid having to buy snow tires for just a few months (if that) worth of driving.

yup. my 83 with snow tires on it was the bomb diggity in the snow. as long as it wasn't snow plowing. i would frequently pass SUV's trying to go up hills with regular street tires and having all kinds of problems, fully in control, just cruising up the hill.

If the house still hasn't sold, and winter is getting a little too close for comfort, you could always install some "previously enjoyed" snow tires, and that way you wouldn't be out as much money if it sold a month later.

My wife and I just purchased our first home after looking for 9 months or so. What I would say is that fixer uppers do not move, but homes with some updates that allowed people to visualize the potential sold quickly. Often at prices that surprised me. As usual empty homes definetly sat longer as well, much longer.

After being in our house for a month I can tell you that if the previous owner had taken the initiative to clean and paint he would have sold the house much quicker.

Of course real estate is local, and your results may vary. We are in a neighborhood of 70 year old homes so if they haven't been kept up it is a huge problem.
