Chuckwalla in my wheel

Went out to run some errands and found a chuckwalla lizard hanging out under my car. After my wife took a picture I got in and started the engine. Figured he'd run away when the engine started. But, we never saw him run. My wife suggested I look under the hood. Nope, not on the engine tray. As I was about to drive off she said, "What about in the wheel?" I got out and checked... peek a boo. In the shadows of the wheel he was pretty much invisible.

Yeah, my neighbor had a chuckwalla in his back yard. I saw it latch on to the stick he was using to nudge it along. They get mean when they're cornered.

Very cool lizard!

gtc 09-30-2010 02:40 PM

Cool little buggers. Iguana family... no way can they be as mean as something like a tokay gecko.

Yeah, right. Last time I reached in an open wheel like that I got cut up by the brake rotor. I've had 3 cars that did that regularly as I used to like to wash the area of the wheel behind the spokes.

Dumb ass me finally learned to not stick my hand in there.

nynor 09-30-2010 03:31 PM

huh. i've never been cut by a wheel rotor, but i can see how it might get pretty sharp. point taken.

RWebb 09-30-2010 08:12 PM

wonder if those things have a toxic bite?

MBAtarga 09-30-2010 08:42 PM

It's likely they spread salmonella - I know iguanas do.
