Ipod data to new PC?

My turn. Upgraded my desktop and my library is on the old computer (with a dead hard drive). All my files are my own CD's which I loaded to Itunes.

How do I get the Ipod files back to Itunes on my new PC????

If the songs are still on your Ipod, you a program like Copy Trans ($29.99) and you can very simply copy the songs into a new (empty) version of ITunes on the new pc. Aplle actually (begrudgingly) recommended this to me

I'm confused. Can't you just load iTunes on your new machine and then synch it with the iPod? I could have sworn that's what I did when I switched computers a year or so ago.

^ sounds about right. Worth a try. Seems the rules regarding this have changed over the years though. Who knows anymore. Keep us posted.

I tried to sync to the new computer and data only goes from the computer to the Ipod not the other way around.

I don't think any program is required.

Turn off hidden folders:

How To Disable "show Hidden Files And Folders" In Folder Option - Discuss Anything

Then you should be able to see the ipod in "My Computer" and download all that data to your PC. If you sync the iPod with the new PC, it will probably erase the ipod (because you have no data on the PC).

The programs might be simpler but I have never used them.

Buena suerte.

I think (think) that the problem here is you don't want iTunes to launch when you plug in the iPod. It will erase the Ipod.

+1. Great suite of tools. The free thingy lets you play the files from the iPod on your computer as well - just like Rhythmbox.

You can't just "unhide" the folders and there they all are - you're going to be very disappointed with what you find in the "Ipod Control" folder if/when you do that - the only way to read the database from the iPod and map the files back to "real" names, albums, artwork, etc. is to use a tool.

If you sync the iPod with a PC that has an empty music library iTunes will sync with the empty library - e.g. erase everything.

There's an option in iTunes to export music that's paid for - but everything you ripped yourself from CD's is gone.

I use a dedicated external drive for my music library and back it up. It took me nearly a decade to get my entire music collection in one place/on that 240Gb iPod, I don't intend to do it again anytime soon...
