My Spoon Keeps Jamming
 

Got me a 9mm Browning High Power and it keeps jamming. It did this since it was new; I polished the ramp a little and it got a little better; but now its getting worse again.
Is there an easy fix or do I need to take it to a smith?

Describe how it is jamming. FTF? Stove Piping? FTE?

And what sort of ammo are you shooting?

A hipower jamming!? In my experience they aren't picky at all. We were shooting what my XD rejected through a hipower....

You could try weaker and (more importantly) more powerful ammo, and make sure the chamber itself is very clean. If you can borrow another magazine try that. Another thing; remove the barrel and try the plop test. A live round should nicely plop into the chamber. It should NOT hang up on the rifling and be able to be wiggled freely. Does It cycle everything when racking it by hand?

Is it a real BHP or one of those Hungarian clones from FEG? My Portugese BHP is a pig, it will eat anything.

The empty casing is jamming; its not existing quick enough.
I don't think its a real BHP, i'll have to check when I get home. I think its Hungarian.

What did you pay for it? Thats a pretty big give away....

MY Ruger SR9 was stove-piping quite a bit.

Then I went to Fiocchi 123gr 9mm +P+ and not a single FTE or Stove Pipe.

Try ammo before changing the firearm.

It may be weak ammo.

Or too strong a spring or maybe a bad extractor.

Call Browning, I had the same issue with my KAHR PM40....sent to them and had it back withing the week....no charge.

are any of us really existing quick enough? Or maybe we're all too quick...

worn extractor or tired extractor spring.

my FEG PJK-9HP was fail to eject randomly 3months after i bought it . casing would be caught by the slide on the return motion. on the edge of the brass at the rim, u could see the mark where the ejector hook slipped off. took it back to the store where i had purchased lifetime warranty for $25. they replaced and it's been great ever since.

just replace the extractor and spring!

Plenty of good advice above, or get yourself a Glock and be done with these silly jamming issues. ;)

My Browning is Made in Belgium/Assembled in Portugal.
The ammo I'm shooting is jacketted.

That comic always gives me a good chuckle. :)

I had this problem in my older SIG P220 at about 10k rounds. Turned out to be a weak extractor. Cost me $26 for a new one from SIG.

A couple of suggestions....

Clean it... Not just clean but perfectly super clean. Stiff brush and lots of solvent.
(Check the chamber and internals for wear or fowling... Extraction claw?)...
Super clean the rails but don't use anything abrasive. Clean and check the magazine well and feeding neck. (were the bullet leaves the magazine)

Back in the day we used to use a coarse cleaning cloth with gun oil. It wasn't abrasive but very good for cleaning.
I can't think of its name but not abrasive. More like a thick woolen fabric but not woolen. Does that make sense?
We used pieces of the same cloth for pulling through with a string of a 7.62mm barrel.
It was marked with a red line every 40mm. About 3 inches wide.

If it still jams after cleaning with good factory ammo then maybe a trip to a good gun smith is on order.
