Since I got pretty much bored with the old cars, I bought a new Bullitt Mustang for a fun driver. But it's only a Ford under warranty...no desire to modify or join a club or any of the stuff that's "been there-done that" in my life. For me, I took up pool...pocket billiards. There are many levels to the game. But the first time you break n' run, controlling that white ball enough to make that break n' run? Man...almost as good as an orgasm! :D But really, what's chosen isn't as important as it being a challenge as well as something you enjoy doing. Get good enough to beat this kid, practicing in this 6 minute video, and you would be considered to be among the top players on the planet. Th last time I wasn't bored I was in school. I took welding classes for 4 semesters at an age over 60.
Now I can weld and I'm as bored as ever. subscribed. |
thankfully ive never suffered from boredom and have been lucky to have challenging passions like playing guitar. occasionally though, i burnout from that and my other interests and turn heavily to fishing.....
if you are interested in fishing, there must be some great salt water fishing in your area.... for example, you could focus just on surf-casting and spend years perfecting your technique and knowledge of the fish that are feeding in shore at certain times of the month or year and not only is it damn exciting to reel in a shark, unhook shark, release shark, etc,.... but you can also catch great fish with which to make some killer fish tacos !! dont kill sharks though, i hate people that kill sharks :-) |
oh and most importantly, fishing gives you something to look forward to, especially if you dont live right on the water. since it takes time and a bit of travel to the water, you have to plan for a day down the road at some particular location,....or you plan for a certain type of fish to be in the area, or you plan for that big tarpon fishing trip to the florida keys !! thats why i love it. i guess its the same for hunters but im not into it
you can do it with your kids too..>>!!! |
Fishing is boring.
Seriously. If you need to eat, get a net and catch some fish. Otherwise, leave them alone. |
Rock climbing? Challenging mentally and physically....

fishing gets me out on the water and provides me with adventure, knowledge of marine biology, how rivers and streams work, and i like fighting and out smarting fish. i certainly dont find it boring, but its definitely not for everyone man there are more grumpy opinions on this forum than anywhere i have seen on the interwebs geewiz |
I think we need a price point per period time you're willing to spend to make your life interesting. I know that sounds seriously ridiculous, as there are plenty of exciting things to do that cost nothing... but those aren't nearly as cool to plan out!
My thing, back when I had lots of time to do whatever, was to pick one thing that I thought was interesting and become as good as I possibly could at doing that thing. For a while, it was kart racing. Then rock climbing. Then freshwater free diving. Then honed skills as a machinist. Then TIG welding. etc etc. This is one example: Buy an old 911 and turn it into a track car. Sure, you'll spend $35K. But if you do every bit yourself instead of farming it out to a shop- that $35K becomes more like $25K and by them end you'll know a hell of a lot about welding, wrenching, paint, fabrication, and electrics. Just one example. The same process can be applied to fixing up a boat, or rock climbing (slings, quickdraws, shoes, harnesses, carabiners, cammers, rope, etc), etc. |
ok, how about this?
go fishing for a crazy gf -- use a net bound to get the boring right out of your life |
Let me see - you own a Porsche and Adelaide has some of the best driving roads around......Have you driven over all of the Classic Adelaide stages yet ;)? Spent any time at Mallalla raceway recently?
Anything involving adrenalin is good! What about going up for a flight in a glider or something similar? They used to do that at Gawler years ago. Make up a list of things you want to do before you die and get started ! |
Learn to fly. There is fun in it, lots of reading, some skill, plenty to spend money on, good networking base, solitude up at 18 thousand feet, lots of built in danger, and a way to get rid of that pesky new Gf you found on line.
|
Buy yourself a motorcycle and see Australia. A BMW G1200GS is the perfect platform. Or if you want an adrenaline rush every tme you ride, get a K1300S. Learn to ride and you'll always have something fun to do...alone or with your next honey.

I have actually thought about learning to fly a glider. I've always found them interesting. I've been to the local aerodrome were they have a gliding club. It looks like a lot of fun. I was a bit surprised when these guys turned up with their gliders dismantled on trailers. It's also something I could do with my son. ------------------------------------------ Meanwhile... A friend who is a member of a local pistol club invited me along for a look. It looks like a great club. Lots of ex service people and a good atmosphere. Owning a pistol in Aus is difficult for a lot of reasons I won't go into here but I think I've found something I could get into... We'll see. |
Base jumping, skydiving, rock climbing/ultralight plane. If you find a girl while doing some of these, all the better. I followed a girl on a sport bike yesterday. The wind kept blowing the back of her shirt up and she had on some nice, tight sweat pants. Wish I could have caught up with her.

The real way to end boredom is instead of looking inward to deal with boredom look outward to see what you can do for someone else. Volunteer and/or mentor. Get yourself invested in something other than yourself and not only will you get rid of boredom but gain alot as well. And no I am not a bleeding liberal, just something that has worked for me.
|
I would strongly encourage you to do some volunteer work. Help out as a mentor, and big brother, support your local boy scout troop. This is missing from many people's lives these days, but as I get older it seems to me that the people helping others seem to be the happiest.
