I bought an ATV!
 

Thanks to all the great advice from everyone that posted in my "Learn me on atv's thread." Between this board and my own research I had decided I would look for a Yamaha. I was ready to settle down to a long search. Some good karma must have been coming back my way, because my wife shows me this ad in the paper for a 2009 Yamaha Grizzly 450 IRS for $4500. Call the guy on the phone and he says he needs the money and the only thing wrong with it was some damage to the engine guard. I go to look at it and it has 1700 miles and 307 hours on it. He used it on the farm. He was right the only thing I found wrong was a bent engine guard. Every thing else looks to be in very good condition. Full automatic. Shift on the fly 4WD. Push button locking differential. 4 cycle with electric and pull start. Exactly what I was looking for. Now to get a winch and snow plow!

Oh, and after negotiations, I picked it up for $3000! :D

right on...............grab the MOOSE UTILITY website and buy a drop rack for the rear. get some fender bags for all yer tools and a tow strap and flat fix kit and you will be KOOL!


cabelas makes a nice front bag for the rack or you can put a basket to haul your beer or geraniums around in.


the rear drop rack is MANDATORY! as it will hold a ICE CHEST FULL OF BEER!



buy a WARN winch totally idiotproof.



and then ya need the old RIFLE RACK for your scoped rifle on the side and ya need a pair of HANDLEBAR RIFLE RACKS for yer KAWBOY LEVER ACTION for "snap shots". or you can put a shovel pick rake on it.



since i have a grizzily, download if ya can the shop manual, get a spare drive belt, plugs, K&N filter and K&N sock(lowers filter cleanings), dump the oil in the diffys,add new, change engine oil and filter,adjust valves to the nats azz and yer ready to ride the country side HIGH AND WIDE plowing the hell out of the snow, delivering beer to all your stranded friends, chasing elk deer antelopezzez and critters all over hells acres and never get stranded.



lube all cables and follow the owners manual and it will run FOREVAR!



brakes are a no brainer.



warn makes winch mounts and winch bumpers and has all the snow plow crap.

Hell, I couldn't let Kurt have all the fun! Shook hands on a deal today for a 1998 Grizzly 600 with a winch and Swisher plow for $1900.

Figure I'd try this for plowing and see how it goes. It was either an ATV or a beater plow truck (ref my learn me about plow thread) that sits for 99% of the time. With the ATV I can get around the property year round and pull a trailer for doing work on the property. Of course there'll be the occasional hooligans with the thing :)

Do not need a 400 but sure wish I could find something like that with a 250 or so for around $1500-2000 or so.

It was either a golf cart or an ATV :) How could buy a golf cart for about the same price without all the utility of a 4x4 ATV.

I'm amazed at how big the thing is. It's built tough as heck too. It should come in real handy.

Joe-I spent a couple of weeks looking for one on Craigslist, and it was either a Honda or a Yamaha. I saw some Honda Rancher 350ES' for about $2000 or slightly more (doesn't mean one can't talk the seller down). Even up here in the civilized part of the Midwest, the market is flooded with used ATVs. So you should be able to find one for less than $2000.

After a ton of research I came to the conclusion that the Yamaha Grizzly is about the best built ATV there is.

Joe you would love a Rancher 350ES. They are great ATVs. We tried our damndest to kill one that belonged to a friend and it kept going. The Eshift is a little laggy if you are really cobbing it, but just cruising around it is quite nice.

just used mine this past rainstorm grading my property.


23miles of grading an acre and a 1/2= 12pak of coors lights. what a wonderful day that was.

We got maybe 4 inches so I had to test out the Grizzly and plow. I had fun, but man oh man it took me a long time. It'll probably go faster the next time. I think I was out the for 3+ hours. I've got a little more pavement to play then some...and I'm anal about the job. Good thing it is Sat morning.


The Grizzly 600 performed like a champ! The snow was kinda wet and the griz had no problem pushing it, sometimes 100 ft. I think that was the most fun I had in a long time while clearing snow.

Souk, cold here, but no snow. Rare to get snow here before Christmas. I am hoping my new plow will be a talisman to keep the snow away all winter!

I jinxed myself, but it was fun playing with the plow!
