Apple to Monitor Text Msg's

What!!!

Apple can stop sexting on the iPhone through patent | News.com.au

porsche4life 10-13-2010 07:27 PM

I will switch to HTC over this if its true...

gassy 10-13-2010 07:28 PM

You sext a lot Sid?

porsche4life 10-13-2010 07:30 PM

No... I just don't like someone monitoring my texts...

Oh who am I kidding... I'm in college... Of course I have sent a few messages of questionable content....

slodave 10-13-2010 07:32 PM

They are not monitoring the texts. It will be a feature that a parent can turn on in the phone. The phone will be filtering the texts based on words.

However, the patent will also enable Apple to view every iPhone user's texts.
I think you missed this rather crucial line.....

I thought all cell providers could monitor texts if they wanted. I don't care if they are reading my sexts, let them enjoy it.:D

Got news for you - the NSA is monitoring them all right now thanks to the Patriot Act. What changes exactly?

imcarthur 10-14-2010 02:39 AM

Yes & didn't RIM have an issue with their BB system in Dubai & some other countries who demanded monitoring ability? And now the problem has quietly gone away? RIM managed to appease them somehow . . .

I view what the NSA does as different than a big greedy(apple fits the bill) corporation spying on me...

Yep. The NSA just tramples on your rights. A big greedy corporation tramples on your rights for profit.

The man bringing you all down? Get off the grid. I'm sending this from a solar-powered wireless computer I made from oak leaves and acorns.

Kabbalah 10-14-2010 08:01 AM

I think it would be illegal to monitor your texts unless it was the gov't monitoring for terrorist threats

My MIL is convinced the IR$ monitors her iPhone's text messages and phone conversations over an old tax issue, she also believes RFI tags on her appliances can be "turned on" to record her activities inside her home. :/ yep, she's an apple user and fox news devotee.

I've tried to convince her nobody really cares what a 70yr old is talking about, but then again...maybe I'm wrong!

I'm not looking forward to the next 10yrs, this'll get ugly no doubt...

Can't any computing device be designed to capture, analyze, and re-transmit user input? The operating system has to process whatever you typed in, after all.
