I'm trying to help out a business associate with changing the brake light on their Audi TT.
I can see I need to remove the white and the gray bolts. I am not sure how to disconnect the brake light lens from the outside body. Is there a bolt I am missing inside or does it pop straight out? I do NOT wish to break their lens cover... Thanks!!!!

If it's anything like an A4, there's one screw that's accessed from inside the hatch, close to where the light is. There might be a cap or small cover in the liner that needs to be opened to access it. Once loosened, it allows the entire light assembly to be removed. The bulbs plug into the rear of the housing.

You can't get to it without pulling the lens?
Crappy design.

The lens and housing are a non-separable assembly...at least it is on the A4. You need to remove the entire thing from the fender to get at the bulbs. It's actually quite easy and only takes a couple of minutes.

If it's anything like a Boxster, there will be tool in the kit that you insert through the aforementioned hole to release the housing. The Boxster unit unplugs itself on the way out.
Should be in the Audi manual, but we mekaniks don't need no stinkin' manual. |

LOUSY DESIGN!!!!
Owner's manual: Take to dealer for repair. (USELESS) There is a little door on each side of the trunk. Right inside the door are two "bolts" that are removed by hand, rather easy chore. The light lens then wishes to flap just a little bit but there is something holding them in on the outside of the lens, furthest from the hole in the trunk area. I cannot feel anything back there nor can I see anything. Thoughts??? Thank you! (I wish there were a shade tree nearby, I'd feel more at home.)

I wish I could remember to help you out but I cannot. I have done this a few times and I can remember standing there looking stupid while scratching my head for a few minutes while I figured it out as well.
