Credit Score Variances

Question. Is there a difference between the credit scores that I get on my own from Equifax, Experian & Transunion and the ones that a bank will pull on me. I'm seeing a dispcrepancy of almost 50 points with the ones that I'm pulling higher, in the 715-728 range and the bank is telling me it was 675. This is my credit score not my company's score.

Just wondering if the bank is yanking my chain for a higher interest rate. I do have an account that lets me see my credit scores and report anytime and alerts me to any changes.

Thanks for the input, this has been bothering me. Need some answers.

And now you all know my credit score too!

The whole credit score thing is a scam. All three bureaus calculate the score differently and then the lenders use different calculations to come up with their own numbers. On top of all this, the way it is calculated is by some secret voodoo formula and no one will tell you how they do it.

I see these ads on TV wanting me to pay to see my score. The problem is that the number you get is not the one the bank uses and knowing you have a good or bad score doesn't make your score any better so what's the sense? The only time knowing your score is any good is if one is way off from the others but you would spot the problem by getting your free annual credit report (without scores) and look for errors and/or differences between the 3 different reporting bureaus.

I don't care if they say I'm 850 or 8.50. I would just shop the rates with different lenders and get the best deal I can regardless of the score.

I've been under the impression that the credit scores were all standardized and banks did what they wanted to manipulate them, but always started with a standard score, which was the same one I was seeing.

I'm having the bank give me a copy of the one they pulled, which is the lower one. Guess they're not supposed to do that either.

I had someone do a credit check on me a while back for a contract I was entering into. It had nothing to do with a purchase, more of a real estate rental thing. The score came back 950. I don't think there's a 950 on the big 3's scale and if there is, I'm certainly not there.

So, there are some really different scales out there somewhere. I pay zero attention to the whole credit thing. It is what it is. I cancel a CC and they dun me? F that.

That doesn't sound right - in every transaction I have ever entered into that required a credit report pulled I have always been able to get a copy of it for my review.
