This will do it... Shimano Di2
I just came across this today... This isn't new but I haven't been watching the industry for a while so I missed it until now.
Apparently Shimano have perfect electronic shifting. It may not sounds significant but believe me it is... The pros are lining up for this system. Campagnolo have been working on a similar system but that's still months away. I hope it's as good as Shimanos.

I've spoken to a few folks that have used it, and they say it's amazing. I'm pretty sure the owner of our LBS, and his son, have it.
I'd probably enjoy having it, but no where near worth the price premium over Ultegra for this recreational rider. I do want to try it out though. |

my 1st real bike had biopace. lasted maybe 6 months till Ibought new chain rings.

I still have a Bianchi road bike that I bought in 1988. It still has the Biopace on it. I haven't ridden it in years.

Very nice gruppo, tested it early this year when shimano sent a Di2 gruppo to my brother for his show bike. The front shifter a bit tough to adjust perfectly but works great overall.

Two Biopace still in the tool box. Hey anyone interested in a vintage Schwinn Paramount frameset...with the cutout Nervex lugs? I believe it's from around 1965.

There was another electronic shifting system years ago, I think it was called ZAP. A couple of people had it when I rode cycle oregon - circa 1998 or 1999. Not a single one of them could get their bikes to shift after sitting outside in the cold all night. Batteries wussed out, they also acted up in the wet. Let's home Shimano has resolved all these issues. I suspect they have, their stuff is pretty darn bomb-proof. Love the self-trimming front. I don't cross up, but my frames are small, so I get some pretty good angle in the chain and I fiddle to get that right. This would do it by itself. angela

Angela, I was thinking the same thing about shifting the front ring off the saddle. I think you still can do that with regular shifters. The auto trimming is cool. what's so hard about pushing the level a hair by hand. Everyone talks about shifting speed. They knock the DA 9spd for being old and slow. In a read road race situtation, I really don't think it really matters. THis stuff is like Tiptronic transmission. If someone jumps in a race, I don't think or care a split second is going make any difference. You still are going have to chase like heck to bridge the gap and tow the train back to the rider who jump free because you weren't watching.
Mavic made the other electronic shifting system back then. |
