Have to reiterate the warm moist compress, will help it to drain. If you want to get ambitious, you can do a Koch-Mason dressing. Moist cloth over wound, cover with dry towel, then wrap up with saran wrap. As the moisture is drawn into the dry towel, it will wick the nastiness out of the wound, saran wrap holds in the heat and cooks any bacteria that may be trying to set up a homestead. Not too tight, leave it wrapped up for at least a few hours, if it starts hurting more instead of less, take it off.

No doubt I'll give that a shot tonight.

Keep in mind that whatever moist cloth you put against that thing is very likely to soak up some very foul crap that will stain it forever. If you use a good washcloth and your wife tries to kill you don't go pointing any fingers at me.

Here are some instructions on the web I found that are wrong. The why it works is right, but I have found it to work better with the saran wrap on the outside, over the dry towel. I absolutely would not do a Koch Mason with a heating pad on top of it. It will get plenty warm without it. This was dreamed up prior to saran wrap being invented BTW.

I accidentally stuck a 1.5" Prickly Pear spine into a vein on top of my left hand two weeks ago; made it all the way to the base of the needle and wiggled it around a bit. It bruised pretty bad (go figure) but healed within a few days.
