my cat got in a humdinger of a fight...

he has scabs all over his head and shoulders and managed to rip one of the claws of his right front paw clean out. i have no idea why he is always fighting.... he is neutered.

I've found the only thing, other than making more cats, that is fixed by neutering is marking.

They are still territorial and I don't think you can fix that out of them.

Exactly...territorial. Cindy insists on making our lastest two indoor cats. So far, so good. Tho I think either one could hold his own. The lightest of the two is 16 pounds.

about three times a year i have to lance and abscess and dose him on tetracycline for a few days. he is so mild mannered when he is home.

we tried to have him indoors only. after he was a year old, if we didn't let him out he would get just crazy pissed off and hiss at anyone or anything that moved.

Yep. We had one that way. Gave up and let her out. Had to, if we wanted any sleep. These two don't know "outdoors", so seem to be more accepting of their fate. That, or they figure the run of the house is a lot better than the humance society cage we sprung them from.

All the stats say they live much longer if kept indoors...

Them humdingers must be tough critters.

My wife used to work at a .... facility .... on a large piece of land here in the West. We're talking a few square miles of land. Feral cats would set up shop and cause all sorts of problems with the equipment, plus breeding and making more feral cats. Cats that survived a while by not causing any accidents got to be pretty cagey at avoiding trouble.

They used to trap and relocate (or trap and euthanize) until somebody got the bright idea of trapping and neutering, then returning them to the population. The ones that survived not only stayed out of trouble but also kept other cats from moving into the area, as they were still territorial. Win-win. Well, mostly.
