craiglook is DOA...now what?

Is there another well-functioning engine to search Craigslists nationwide?

Burkie61 10-21-2010 05:19 PM

Try again...looks like they send you to the new site and has simply been renamed

pavulon 10-21-2010 05:22 PM

it's not searching craigslist.

Brando 10-21-2010 05:30 PM

Paul K 10-21-2010 05:40 PM

How about searchtempest.com, allofcraigs.com, craigzoom.com, or jaxed.com?

pa911 10-21-2010 08:40 PM

Sadly none of those are quite as good as Craiglook..I was saddened to see Craiglook get shut down by Craigslist :(

doesn't work nearly as well as craigslook did. i did a search for an item on look one day and the same search the next day on claz and none of the items showed up on claz.

craigslist is always working to defeat those type of site-searchers.

. . .sure, it's 'the information age' where we expect always better search tools. But, it's quickly becoming the 'information CONTROL age.' ...as in "We control the horizontal . . We control the vertical...

why does CL care? seems they would want to see their service promoted by these things(?)

Zeke 10-22-2010 11:05 AM

I've always used tempest. Works for me. What made craiglook better?

Porsche-O-Phile 10-23-2010 01:14 AM

There are a couple of iPhone apps that do this.

pavulon 10-23-2010 05:51 AM

I've now tried all the options here...thank you for all the suggestions. Unfortunately, craiglook was very fast, accurate and easily tailored as well as capable of saving searches. IMO, it was the best site for searching craigslist by a fair margin. I can't understand why a popular but marginally searchable classifieds site would extinguish an engine designed to search them efficiently.

For some reason, I'm reminded of that adage;

When the only tool one has is a hammer, every problem becomes a nail.

Let's hope that you don't need to ihammer a nail. ;)

CLAZ has banner ads running so I assume that craiglook did as well.

The issue is very likely craiglook deriving revenue from both free and paid content aggregated by craigslist. Either one is going to be an issue.

Also possible that the types of searches the alternate sites provide are a resource drain on craigslist's DB servers.
