What kids won't do for five bucks....

My son is a freshman in high school. Last week he dared another kid to eat a Starburst that had been in the urinal for a few days for $5.

The kid ate it.

Yeah, I never took dares like that. It would have had to be more like $5,000 to get me to do that.

I am thankful that I have never been that broke, hungry, or stupid.

The movie/shows Jackass have sucked the brains or of todays youth.

I'd have never even considered doing something like that.

Sounds fishy to me. Any chance your son is bullying the kid that ate it? Are they friends, or what?

Damn! I can't even get my 10 yr old to clean his room for $5. Maybe I should throw in a Junior Mint found in the cat's litter box?

They are friends my son said, but I've never met the kid. That said, with friends that eats candy out of a urinal, maybe my son needs to be a little more careful who hangs out with in school (he's a straight A student though).

My son a bully? Fat chance.

I'd say that kid does have issues if eats crap out of a urinal. I'm hoping it was some sleight if hand deal.

60 years ago, guys like my brother were daring their friends to eat worms.

Not a lot has changed, if you ask me.

Friends that you never met? My spider-senses are tingling. I'm not trying to be an alarmist, but if this is truly friend to friend behavior it should be someone who your son would hang out with, call socially, etc. Any other type of "friend" becomes worrisome -- because there may be an unequal power relationship at hand here.

I deal a lot with bullying and harassment situations -- often the person with the "power" will claim that the victim is their "friend". That explanation doesn't hold much water if the friendship is really more of an acquaintance, or just someone that the person knows.

An honest chat with your son may help him, and the other child immensly. Remember, bystanders have a role to play in stopping harassment.

Of course, it could be nothing at all. But I wouldn't ignore it. I suspect the fact that you posted about it means you are a bit concerned, too.

I say "friend" because that's what he called him. Probably someone he has a class with, because he's not someone who swims year round or is on the high school swim team. Between school and swimming, my son doesn't have much time for other activities/trouble.

A talk about him and that kid would be in order though just to make sure all is well.

At least they didn't try to be blood brothers like we did years ago, when it was safe...

If money was involved, I don't see it being a bully thing. Kids these days are doing a lot of stupid stuff because they've seen the show Jackazz. At least the one didn't pour gas on himself and set himself on fire. I've seen vids of that where everyone involved thought it would be a hoot until things got hot. Then at least one realized that it was a dumb idea.

This sounds to me like it was just normal stupid kid crap. Someone is always wanting to prove that they are the coolest or the least afraid, or the craziest or whatever.

Yeah, with money involved, this just sounds more like a common attention whore incident.

When I was in college we stopped by Vegas on our way to spring break in Mexico. We were walking down the strip and someone spotted a cup of a red punch-like substance about half full on a news stand. We dared a guy to drink it, so he pretty much *had* to do it. Good times.

In my early Navy days (circa 76), I was not exactly an angel... so I and a few guys end-up CB and we had to report to the galley for all meals to help... Good move as we helped ourself with the good stuff they kept in the back .

For some reason, I owed one of the guy $75 and as we sat around the table we made a drink of all the condiment available; vinegars, Tabasco sauce, Yorkshire sauce, mustard... you name it, it went in; we started the dare at $5. When it reach $75 I said I'll do it... The only condition is that if I spew before ending it i still would win.

Off to the bathroom, in front of the sink and down it went. Apparently my eyes almost left their socket but it stay down. The head chef was so impress he let us go early...

I got worst story that don't even involve money but since it's almost super time EST, I'll spare you the details

Alright this one is almost clean. While in France for R&R, a couple of guys came back to the ship with a use "toilet" bowl (liquid still dripping). Cross the plank and disappeared below deck.

A few days later, I'm doing rounds, go down to check the JP5 Tank in the Stoker mess... and there was the bowl doubling up as a ice cube bucket and they were putting them in their drink...

Nothing quite like a Gin & Eau de Toillette
