My wife had an 05 C230 Sport. We loved it and had very few problems with it. The 13 pin connector for the automatic transmission leaked twice but was fixed under warranty. Also the central display went out which was also fixed under warranty. Other then that, I loved that car. The handling was not too shabby either. The servicing was decently affordable as well.
I say go for it.

An '06 is a good car. The '07 was the last year, has slightly nicer wheels that were a "one year only" thing (so kinda cool), but '06 is very solid.

Not sure on the value. Seems like it would be a great deal for one with half that miles, but that's a hella lot of miles for an '06. Is hard for a lender to auction, because anything over 100K miles gets flagged and takes a hit. You'd have to do some research on autotrader, ebay, etc. to see current market value. Also, condition, accident history, etc. means a lot, too, of course.

4cyl supercharged or V6? Either way, I would say no. We've had 2 and they had continuous problems. All covered under warranty, but can't imagine what the issues would cost at the dealer or even a 3rd party. Personally, I would never own a recent model MBZ unless it was covered by a factory warranty.

Those are all V6. The 4 cylinder was dropped completely in the US years before that.

MBs have had good years and bad years for most models. The 06 Cs are good. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I shopped for one for my pops. He's got a 2006 C230 Sport and he loves it. Of course Pops doesn't drive it very spiritedly, but I did when I tested it out...and do when I get to drive it now and then.

We got his car a couple of years ago for about $16K with 30K miles on it. I think that it has 40K miles on it now. It's a nice driver with the 6 (or 7?) speed tranny. I drove it back to back with my 2002 530i Sport (5-speed manny), and the C230 was a respectable and capable sedan. It isn't as sporty as my BMW, but for an entry class Merc it wasn't disappointing. Row through the manumatic, and it'll keep you entertained. The chassis is tight, but not as tight as my BMW. The interior is rather cheap compared to the BMW interior, but it's entry level Merc.

$8500 seems a little high for the mileage, but if you are happy with the way it has held up and it's got the good service history, I think you'll be happy with it.

Yeah, not sure what year they dropped the 4 cylinder, but I know by 06 it was gone. I thought it was dropped in 03/04, but looks like 05.

Never owned a 4 cylinder one, no. Never would. I like my lawnmower engines in my lawnmowers. Owned many 01 and up V6 and V8 Mercedes, though, still do.

Forgot to mention that her car was a lease. Always under warranty that way. Turn it and burn it every four years.
Hers was a 4 cylinder super charged model.

Motion, It sounds like you got a couple of lemons. Thats a bummer.

2006 was the first year of the 6 cylinder.
