You have a bit of a point. When I was in the 7th to 12th grade all I wore was 501 Levis. No big deal, right? Everyone wore 501's. Except in order to not be totally ostracized from campus you had to "prepare" your jeans (NO one called them jeans).
What was needed was to remove stitching from the back pockets, you know the chevron design. Then you had to remove the belt loops. Finally, the very top stitching around the waist band was removed. All super carefully with a golf tee and a razor blade.
Of course they NEVER got washed. Ever. If your mom threw them in the wash, you threw them out.
The point?
Well, I guess we were in our own little culture zone. I went to a school that had fraternities and sororities in the 7th grade! They were feeders to F and S's in high school. Serious off campus fraternities that fed college frats. Talk about a micro culture.
Well, that's all you see in those videos. Too bad. Those kids need to get away from all that. If someone would just turn on the History channel. Anything.
But we were just as pathetic with our cool Levis and 14 year olds in fraternities. And the bad part is a lot of those kids never grew up. Some did in Viet Nam and some were shaken loose by drugs and the "new" culture. But I see some down at the yacht club still with their saddle shoes.
They just wear a club jacket now instead of a letterman's sweater.
In East L.A. I see 60 YO cholos in low riders. Those video kids are trapped indeed.
