Very small/selective market for the Hasselblad and the likes.

The electronic one rules the market. Even Nikon went electronic back in 1999.

Please do not part company with the Leica, it would be the equivalent of getting rid of a Longhood in the 80's. I know its tough to pay for the processing but the pure image quality will never be bettered regardless of chip size.
For work I use a 5D MK II but if I want to make images for me, I use the M2 with 35 1.4. Try to find a digital system get close to that quality in low light. I know the Canon chip with both the pro sumer Zeiss lenses and even Panavision primes can't.
In spite of high costs Leica glass is still the best. Heres mine, it just feels great.

I have seen them out here for 1000 to 1200 so ur price is fine IMO - wish I had the money I'd love to have that. I shoot a mamiya 645 but lust for a hassleblad

Yeah the Hasselblad is priced a bit too high. How much you asking for the Leica? I'm interested. My business partner (photographer) turns 60 next year and I was thinking of getting him an M6. At least you'd know it went to a good home...

Old German cameras are exactly like old German cars (OK, Swedish, too). Using a Leica or a Hasselblad is just like driving a classic Porsche, and the results are equally thrilling. Hold onto them and use them as long as you can, then preserve them for future generations. My old Rollieflexes are as precious to me as my 1965 912 and my Porsche Type 678 aircraft engine, and although I fire them up only rarely, I appreciate their absurdly fine engineering and want them to eventually go to the right people (we're all just curators here). Newer 911s are like digital cameras: easy to drive fast, and it's hard to go wrong. The 1960s saw the peak of German craftsmanship in cameras and cars. That deserves preservation and appreciation.

Can't you get a digital back for the hasselblad?

Yes but they cost about 30k

The current digital back from Hasselblad isn't compatible with my SWC because the real element of the lens is too close to the film plain... You loose corner sharpness.
However they are compatible with the Refelx Hasselblads of the same era.

Yes they are expensive but like anything in 5 years time they'll be almost given away second hand.

Imagine a 30 megapixel medium format digital back for less than $1,000!

I sold the two Leicas below on Craigslist last year for good money. Why? I simply wasn't using them, and I'm getting to a point in my life where accumulating stuff doesn't have the appeal it once did.

These things are unlikely to go up in value. The only people buying them are art and photography students. Why not give someone else the chance to be their custodian, rather then have them gather dust in the attic?

I think your biggest problem is where you are advertising the camera. Craigslist isn't the best place to get top dollar for anything. It's where you go to get cheap prices...

yea...EBAY is next. but i hate ebay. i may get a friend that is hard up for cash to sell it for me. for a fee.

or i may stick up a poster old school style at a local art school.

If I were you, I'd track down the internet sites/forums that are devoted to that type of camera. It's always better to sell to an enthusiast.

Digital cameras will probably evolve to the point where their image quality is peerless, in terms of pixels per square inch. And image processing will be very flexible and allow infinite colorations, etc. But you know.......there is something that light does to a strip of film that digital systems will have a very difficult time emulating. Like many of you, I see two images when I look through the viewfinder in my SLR35. I see what I see......and I see what the light is going to do to that film. Sometimes when I release the shutter, I think to myself "that frame is going to be real interesting."

For work (taking pictures at a construction site), digital is the way to go. For play (taking pictures of a foggy meadow at sunrise), the fun is in knowing how the film will manage the light/image.

I have lately been unable to get my mind away from vacuum tube hifi gear. I don't have any, but I know what tubes do to sound, and I REALLY want to experience that at home. Same topic as the cameras. CD's played through solid state amps are quite sharp and accurate......but the warmth and stage are not there.
