Is this the same car that was at the Spy Museum in DC? If so, it looked a little ragged.

WOW, can't say that I am surprised at the price.. If I ever won one of those mega lottos, that would be on the buy list... Guess that I would need to buy a ticket to win...

I've always been confused about the DB5 used in the films. I pulled this snipet off the Net:
"After it became clear that Goldfinger would become a huge financial success, and a flood of requests came to put the DB 5 on display, the company built two replicas of the car for promotional purposes. These cars had some additional equipment details. One of them had a telephone that was installed in the door on the driver’s side. It also had a special reserve tank and a very luxurious interior trim with antelope leather. All three vehicles (and two others which had been used during the filming) were exhibited at numerous motor shows and charity events; they turned out to be the best publicity-makers that the luxury carmaker ever had. 3. The Aston Martin DB 5 from Thunderball (1965) In early 1965, one of the three vehicles was deployed again in Bond’s next appearance: Thunderball. During the pre-title sequence, it was allowed to again show its opponents what it had. The scene took place outside the Chateau d´Anet palace near Paris: Fleeing from shooting pursuers, the rear wall moved out and two pipes beneath the bumper poured a hefty stream of water onto the three approaching gangsters." from: Car Enthusiast NEWS - by CAINT.COM So I guess the 4.6 million car is the one driven in both movies. |

I had read that they used a DB4 in Goldfinger and called it a DB5 because it looked the same. I vaguely remember one of the cars had been sold at auction a long time ago for $100K and had been used as a DD in San Francisco. When I read it, I thought that was ridiculously cheap.

Interesting story behind the auction: 2nd movie car stolen, 5mil pre-sale offer, ignored bidder...
"Philadelphia broadcaster Jerry Lee, who has owned it since 1969. bought it for $12,000 after persuading Aston Martin to sell it." Read more: Double Oh My! James Bond Aston Martin sells for $4.6 million It reportedly came equipped with all the Bond gadgets including oil spray, and a pair of Browning machine guns!

I remember reading years ago that there was 6 of those cars. One was destroyed while making Goldfinger (JB crashed it into a wall). The article went into how all the trick features were built into the cars. It also mentioned where all the cars were (at the time). One was owned by Jim Patterson of Van. BC

It's okay, Frank...you can post a pic of the car today...with you, the owner, standing in front of it.

The Astons were actually the last DB4's rebadged to unveil the DB5. IIRC they made 5 series of the car with subtle changes 1st series the hood was hinged in the rear, 2-5 series hinged in the front, wing windows added, oil coolers, eventually electric door windows, etc. The last DB4's made were virtually identical to a DB5.
Of course this doesn't include the 90 something DB4 GTs or the DB4 GT zagatos of which they made 12.

I don't know if the one Jimmy Pattison has/had was the one that used to belong to Frank Baker—but for a long while one of these cars was displayed in Frank Baker's restaurant in Vancouver. I have also seen other so called originals here and there over the years.

Frank does not own the Le Mans 911, I own it; it was secretly disguised as a rusty 914 and shipped out of Europe decades ago. The car also served as the prototype for the 918 Spyder.

Every time I see the "Broccoli" name in the credits for a Bond film I wonder where that family got its name. I mean I have never heard of Mr. Potato or Mr. Carrot. Could you ask your friend Tony about this?
