Need a commuter car
I live about 12 miles from work. It's time to put away the P car for the winter so I need a practical commuter. I'm leaning towards a used Ford Focus hatch-back. Any reliability issues from any owners? Front wheel drive is a must as we get our share of snow in Pittsburgh. I want something that I will not have to worry about other than routine maintenance.
Thanks to all. Bernie |
Are you looking for an appliance (soul-less Focus, Accord/Civic/Camry/Corolla), or something with a little fun to it (RWD, AWD, 5/6speed, etc). Snow tires on anything you buy, as drive train doesn't help you stop... so budget snow tires (or rims and tires if you want to have a backup car, though if it is truly backup, snow tires in the dry are fine).
So.... budget is needed next. |
Slocus is a fine car. Get some good all season or winter tires on most any FWD vehicle and you'll be good.
My brother drove his 2000 up until this past spring and didn't have any major issues. He traded it in with 120,000 miles on a new one. The MPG is very good as well. |
I give my seal of approval on the Ford Escort ZX2!
'98-'03. Cheap, reliable, indestructible and disposable. KT |
I just picked up an 08' Accord. It's a 4 cylinder/5 speed. It delivers really good mpg and is fun to drive. I know it's not as colorful as alot of other cars but as far as reliability goes it's pretty hard ot beat.

I drive a 2005 Hyundai Elantra as my daily commuter. My wife & I bought it new. Currently has 56000 miles on it with no issues since new. There is nothing exciting about driving it, but it gets great gas mileage, is reliable and has decent power for it's class. We are going to give it to our daughter next year when she turns 16.
