One would think...

that cutting the foot and a half of string coming out of your cats ass shorter so they stop running in circles chasing it is the correct procedure in that circumstance.

Well my friends, apparently it can get sucked back in before the vet has had a chance to deal with it.

So now you know.

Thanks for the laugh.

mikeferg75 11-04-2010 02:55 PM

You were supposed to step on it as the cat was running away from you ;) live and learn.

My dad told me a story when I was young, I have no idea if he was pulling my leg or not:

It seems his college friend was somewhat of a character.
He took a piece of pork fat and tied a piece of fishing line to it and went to the local park where they had a duck pond.
He fed the pork fat to a duck, and within a few minutes it came out the other end.
He then fed it to another duck.
Within an hour he had a string 10 ducks long.

I pulled a 3 foot string out of my cat's mouth.

nynor 11-04-2010 03:46 PM

LOL! why did you cut it instead of gently pulling it out?

if anyone is interested, i have a coupla stories about my father's newfoundland dogs. one involves a glad trash bag. the other involves a terry-cloth kitchen towel. a large one. oh, and then there was the tamales with our newfoundland. fun times.

Too funny! We had a dog when I was a kid that ate an entire string of pop corn off the Christmas tree. She was trailing a three foot long string O sausages... except they weren't sausages. I miss that dog. She was always good for laugh.

I gave it a gentle tug at first and met with resistance. Problem with cats and string is if it's bound you can actually cut thru, perforate the intestines and then you've got real problems.

I cut it cause the cat was spinning in circles chasing it and I was afraid he'd pull on it.

Left a couple of inches hanging. Had no idea it could get sucked back in.

masraum 11-04-2010 05:45 PM

Should have tied a little stick to it or maybe tied a bell to it after you cut it.
