Great caption from the great Peter Egan, anyone remember the Road & Track photo?

(my title got chopped off..)

Wrecked Ferrari, guy standing there smoking a cigarette and looking at the carnage he just caused.

Icemaster 11-05-2010 04:13 PM

IIRC,

He's standing above a Ferrari that he's just slid off the road.

It's been a while might have been something different.

Feeling old, I remember seeing that in its original issue. :(

trj911 11-05-2010 05:21 PM

One of my favorites.

Steve Carlton 11-05-2010 06:11 PM

That was great! Thanks for the refresh.

URY914 11-05-2010 06:19 PM

I remember it too. But can't remember what I had for dinner yesterday.....

Jrboulder 11-05-2010 06:22 PM

That's great!
The best thing is is that it's a ferrari not a Porsche

McLovin 11-05-2010 06:30 PM

I remember that when it was new, never forgot it, word for word.

It was IMO the greatest, most memorable photo/caption ever.

Hell, I still have that issue, boxed up with others (back to the late 70'S), in the attic. Much to my wife's displeasure, of course.

Does anybody have the article about Peter and a friend driving an newly restored Isetta from Memphis to the SCCA Runnoffs in Atlanta?

Still remember the line about arguing if the throttle cable had come off, or if the car was running normal.

would love to be able to reread it.

If you want a good dose of Peter Egan, this is highly recommended. I just read it, and loved it.

Amazon.com: Peter Egan on the Road: America's favorite automotive writer stays off the Interstate (9780981727004): Peter Egan: Books: Reviews, Prices & more

And it has the Isetta story in it.

First, I too remember the R&T P.S. with the Ferrari in the ditch. A classic.

I am a huge fan of Peter Egan's writing. I have several (all?) of his car books (he may have bike books too) & his latest "road-trip" book -- the one referenced above -- is the next book in my pile to read. I am almost finished with the latest B.S. Levy book, "The 200 mph Steamroller". Or I might read Brock Yates' book "Enzo Ferrari" (which I recently bought used) next. Not enough time!

+1! But, hell, I was reading R&T long before that issue...nothing wrong with getting old...

If Peter Egan quits writing for R&T, I'll probably let my subscription lapse. BTW, you Egan fans DO know which modern car he drives, don'tcha? He wrote an excellent column on buying it...;)
