Can anyone help - Using Google Groups now using Windows live Mail
I'm wondering if anyone can help me with this little problem.
I have been using Google groups for years. I use this to send out blast e-mail messages to our local PCA membership (which has alwasy opened my Microsoft Outlook). I just got a new computer which has Windows 7. Now, when I try to send a blast e-mail message to the group, the sytem opens "Windows Live Mail" instead of the usual Microsoft Outlook. Unfortunately, I can no longer send messages to the group because when it opens Window's Live Mail, it wants my e-mail and a password. WHAT password is this thing wanting? my outlook setup, a completely new password, and existing non-existant password? I am completely confused and I have tried all of the above but no messages go out. Of course, Google Groups has conviently left out any "contact" button on their site so it's seems impossible to ask a question. They do offer a choice of forums that I can go to and maybe get some answers but I thought I would try here first. Any advice woutlbe really appreciated. Vern |
Have you set up your email account(s) in Windows Live Mail yet?
|
I have not set up Windows Live Mail because I use Microsoft Outlook for e-mail. Am I now "required" to use Windows Live Mail?
|
Windows live mail=hotmail.... Just FYI
|
No. Does the new PC have Outlook installed?
|
I had to do the same thing on my new laptop. (Win 7)
Didn't use a password. Downloaded a live mail update the other day and then couldn't send any mail..could recieve but not send. Got back home and it now works. I don't get it. Shouldn't i be able to send mail from a wifi hot spot? |
Open Outlook. Click on Tools, then options.
Look for the TAB marked "Other" and select it. Check the box "Make Outlook the default program..." |
I hated Windows Live mail. It seemed very slow and was always downloading spam and trash when i didn't want it to. It also came on my new laptop with Win 7.
Always had Gmail, so I switched over to Mozilla Thunderbird when Outlook Express was no longer available..... |
Well, I took all suggestions. I checked to make sure my outlook was set as my default program - and it was.
So, I went to the uninstall menu and uninstalled Windows Live Essentials. This solved the problem. Seems odd that Microsoft sells Windsow Live and Microsoft Outlook - but since when has Microsoft ever made sense from a users point of view. As a business model they are brilliant...fill up computers with useless programs (like ms works, and their crappy scaled down spreadsheet) and then basically you have to purchase word & excel just to be compatable with the entire word. Microsoft gets the benefit of selling two programs when you only need the one. This is the exact reason that I have absolutely no guilt or shame when I copy a program from time to time. Thanks all.... |
Microsoft doesn't sell "live". It's free and included with 7. It replaces Outlook Express. Microsoft sells Outlook because it is more robust and meant for office environments.
