Profit Taking On Gold
At $1407.00 an oz I would be inclined to sell some gold. I always miss the sell signals. $1500/Oz is possible.
What are your thoughts? Will it go to $2K Double Eagles and Krugerrands still seem to be the best way to hold. they seem to be the easiest way to sell.

With 'currency wars', sour economy & seemingly resurged demand from India, it is a safe bet. But it is still just a bet . . .
I am still holding. Ian

I always miss the top 10% value on every thing. I'm always selling on the back
(declining) side. Basis is $400/oz +/- bought in the early 90's. sell 1/3 to 1/2 now. Feels right. The silver folks are primed for a run. hold on the silver ?

I'm still holding all I can, just selling enough scrap gold to keep the shop afloat. Bought 100 silver $'s this week, will keep a least a roll of them.
It would be hard to lose money selling gold or silver the last few years. Jim

It appears it is the next bubble to burst. Granted the US government is printing money like mad but the pice also is fueled by speculation.

Depends if you believe John Paulson or not - he did make stacks of money betting against sub-prime mortgages.
John Paulson's Scary Speech: Double Digit Inflation By 2012, Gold At $4,000 He says the fundamentals for gold will support $2500/oz right now, and points out that it will probably bounce to $4000/oz on the frenzy if it does. I've also read other people observing that the 80's high for gold would be $2200/oz or thereabouts in today's money.

More interesting is silver. While gold has had quite the run, silver has just recently started to move. I bought a bunch of silver when it was at $19 and just watched it sit there for the last year. Now it is up around $27.00

Is it actually owning gold, or a piece of paper issued by "someone" that says you own gold?

they are worth just a little more than the spot price depending on trading volume.

Sold a few ounces of gold when it hit $1400, held on to most of it though.
Most of the gold in the safe was from my father and grandfathers collection, $2 1/2, $5, $10 and $20 US Coins, plus at least one of every US Mint issued Proof and American Eagle from 1984 to 2002, and a few private mint one oz bars. Holding on to all my silver coins and bars and the platinum bullion coins that also came from my dad...He spent a lot of money purchasing Silver, Gold and Platinum Coins and Bullion coins from the mint. I have Proof sets (back to 1936) and Mint Sets (back to 1947), for every year they were sold. It looks like his investment is finally starting to pay off....to bad he isn't around to realize it.

I bought silver at just under $12 in 2008 and sold at about $19. I kind of wish I'd have hung on longer, but hey, no crystal ball, and I still got out ahead.

[thread hijack]
If I worked for a major telecom networking with enough clearance, the Blackberry/Ipad/cellphone towers would give me the exact location and habits of all your family members at any given second. If vehicular Onstar GPS/etc... is also routed through the same network, this would be a secondary confirmation of location. If banking records are routed through the same networks, I could know what pets you own, and what security and weapons you've recently purchased. Just sayin'...Be careful out there. You are not alone...
I see no need to sell as I am not needing anything. If the brown material ever hits the fan the value will be off the charts, and that is when we will really NEED it. Thats why its sitting for now...

Everything posted here is the herd mentality. Myopic in the extreme.
now do ya wana break away from the herd, and head to the mountain top to get a panoramic view of the lay of the land? Then you need to ask yourself a question. With everything you see going on, what do you think it will all lead to? Do the politicians inspire confidence in you that they will be able to rectify the problems the US has? Do the economic policies look like they are headed for a ROSY future for America? Do you think this new crop of politicians can make enough of a difference in policies to head off the cliff of oblivion that lies ahead.? The one ray of hope that there is is that the Obama agenda has been blunted and derailed. Now will the politicians have enough of common sense and moral fortitude to make the necessary changes that will avert that cliff?
