Thayer Evans

Likely pissed his bed several times as a child. Probably hates dogs, women and children. Could be a closet necrophile. Enjoys publicly attacking a young man who has done everything he can do to better himself (after admittedly making some mistakes several years ago).

Are there any ethical journalists left?

I guess I need a link to what you are talking about.

Never heard of the guy.

If it has to do with the Heisman voting, I think the Heisman is now a freakin joke and should be buried in the end zone in some football field in Hoboken.

I never heard of him either. Why do you hate the Heisman? Are you a Reggie Bush fan?

I don't hate the Heisman but I do think it's a joke. And I'm certainly not a Reggie Bush fan. There are way too many excellent football players in colleges today to single out one. All it does is jack up their $$ and move them up in the NFL draft.

Thayer Evans has written some articles that could be considered either power expose (with no hard evidence), vicious personal attacks, or just a sorry little man-girl who does not seem to have the ambition or the talent to actually expose alleged wrong doing.

His target is an Auburn player who is a Heisman nominee. Don't know what is true or what is not true but the tone of his articles and the lack of hard evidence casts this so-called journalist in a most disparaging light. Comes across like a gossip column.

Basic rule of journalism. Confirm your source, confirm your source, confirm your source - and shut up if you cannot.

Angela, I disagree here...I once served on a board with other political activists, an initiative effort to reduce property taxes. As such, we were exposed to the Oregon press. They have no morals, would hurt their own mothers if they thought there was a story in it. They are masters of taking statements out of context, half truths, etc. The "Journalists" have agendas, never think they don't.

When we won Measure 5, I dropped out...to this day, if I see a reporter or a TV camera, I get as far away as possible.

I worked as a newspaper photographer for several years. On several occasions I went with a reporter to cover a specific story. I was there right next to the reporter and took pictures for the story. The next day I would read the paper and shake my head wondering how the reporter wrote what he did. I was there and it was not what I saw or heard.

They are also good at selecting the photo used, depending on whether they wish to portray the subject in a good or bad light.

Oh yea. Careful cropping can change a photo a lot as well.

Actually, I think we agree, Paul. A person entrusted to report the news should do so, fairly and without bias, and should confirm all sources for authenticity. I for one like to think I am intelligent enough to make my own decision when presented unbiased facts. I want news, not a gossip column. Clearly, as in the case of Thayer, journalists do not always (often) hold themselves to a professional standard. Sound bites, out of content verbage and the over riding theory that if it bleeds, it leads, dominates modern so called journalism.

If Thayer had provided his opinion with fact, then it would be investigative journalistm. This is clearly nothing more than mud-slinging that will cost the athlete any realistic chance at a Heisman. Further, Thayer's writing isn't all that good. THe fact that he has nothing substantial to say save the weight of his own pompous opinion is clearly evident. There are much better writers here on Pelican.
