Anyone have a Slingbox somewhere on the east coast?

I need to watch some network TV east coast time next week and I've found pretty much no other options.

I'd be willing to buy the license for the client and also make it worth your while with a small care package once it's over and done with.

Would like to get it tested out in the next few days if possible.

Also open to any other ideas anyone has. I'm going to try and fool with getting it OTA as well in case we can only catch west coast airings.

A slingbox is a nifty little thing that you plug into your cable so that you can watch shows when you're not at home over the Internet.

Have seen a few people mention it, apparently they are great for travelling overseas and such.

One would think there would be an online subscription service for major TV channels for people willing to pay, but if there is, I sure couldn't find it, maybe I was looking for the wrong thing.

Let me get this straight- you want to watch some network television next week without the 3 hour time zone airing delay?

MysticLlama 11-10-2010 09:25 PM

Yep, basically that's it, seems easy, but I didn't find any obvious ways to do it.

Watch it three hours earlier? Something like this scenario?

A Blond and a Brunette were sitting at the bar watching TV news. There was a guy on the news threatening to jump to his death. The Brunette bet the Blond $20 that he would not jump. The Blond took the bet. Guy jumped. Blond started to pay up, Brunette said I can't take your $$ I saw this earlier with my sling box. Blond said I saw it earlier also, I just did not think he would do it again.

I do... but I need more info on the details/benefits... also trying to think what's the worst you could do if you borked my settings, heh. =) PM me I suppose.

Mama's got a squeeze box she wears on her chest
And when Daddy comes home he never gets no rest.

Oh wait, that's something completely different. Never mind.

I have a couple of slingboxes and they are fantastic. For someone who travels, especially overseas, they make life a lot easier and you get some info from home for a change.

Wish I could help, but live in Arizona.

Thanks Joe, I think I probably picked up on the name based on some things you said in the past about it. They do seem pretty slick.

For me I had to have it once it came out as I would be in some wacko place like Lagos or Moscow and want to watch Formula One. Ever tried to find a specific channel at a place like that? Nope, not going to happen so Slingbox came into my life.

Find a friend or family member, pay for the cable for that box and internet it to where you are working. Put the box in a spare bedroom or the like where no-one is going to be changing channels or the like. My old copilot did this and now records stuff on his laptop while sleeping then time shifts it to watch whenever he is awake.

Will this work for me in China? Will be spending another four weeks there come December. Would be nice to see some tv from home.

Reason I ask is that China blocks certain internet channels...

Joeaksa 11-12-2010 08:01 PM

If a certain country blocks things like this you might try using a VPN and going around the block to get to the slingbox.

This is what we did in Saudi and UAE who block things like this.
