Wake today, funeral tomorrow. 43 yr old suicide

What a downer I can be... my sister's brother-in-law did himself in last Thursday. One of the funniest guys I had the pleasure of knowing. 43 yrs old, leaving behind 2 sons and a daughter, ages 13 -- 18. Ugh. I know we've discussed suicide here before and I don't even know why I'm posting. Funeral tomorrow, then my sister is having her husband's whole family over for an impromptu Thanksgiving on Thursday. I'm gonna grill a turkey for them and drop it off Thursday morning.

There is nothing to say, nothing to do. I imagine the loss the family feels with a suicide has to be incredibly different than any other.

The Holidays can do this to people-- if you're at all concerned about anyone, get them to talk if you can. Oh well. Easy for me to say. That's it for my public service announcement.

All you can do is be there for people. You don't have to say anything fancy. Cooking a turkey so it's one less thing for them to worry about is perfect.

my Uncle is dealing with this right now as well..
I thought/ believed she had it all..
she was to spent a few weeks with me..
got the call 24 hrs before she was to be here..
her parents will never be the same..

I'm sorry she felt so alone in the crowd..

It always good to remind folks to be aware of behavior that seems out of place, for any reason.

My sister's first husband did this and it changed her forever.

I've been to that point but thoughts of my friends and family kept me safe.

My condolences to the family.

Just sad...I'm sure suicide has touched us all....one way or another. It leaves those left behind wondering if they could have prevented it...if only they knew.

A coworker's 2 year old son is dying and the hospital just sent him home (with hospice care) for a few days with his family. Incredibly sad....

Good advice about the talking. I guess about 15 years a buddy of mine called all down in the dumps about a bad business deal. Actually talked about killing himself. Of course, being the perceptive and brilliant friend that I can be, I didn't take him seriously. Got the call the next day, he'd shot himself during the night. Might could have prevented it, will never know now. I won't take it so lightly if it happens again.
