Console Me . . .

I opened a bad bottle of good wine.

It is triply tragic since 1) it's our anniversary 2) I was really looking forward to it 3) I have nurtured that bottle since its release. I have lovingly temperature-controlled it (more or less), in a nice dark vibration-free space & STILL it died.

A Pauillac. C'est domage. :(

A bottle of burgundy - Joblot's 99 Givry Clos Du Cellier Aux Moines has jumped to the rescue & all appears well - if a tad chilled - at present. The hunk of red meat is roasting.

Ian

(Note the clever product & endorsements in the photo - the book was just to hide clutter - but it is very good & it was bought on the recommendation of a thread here)

Sound like a Return trip to the LCBO... :(

We are having a Carbarnet Franc (through a Vinturi) from Niagara with the roast :)

I'll have the unemployed folks who are looking for work of any kind give you some reasons to be consoled. Better still, I'll have a friend who desperately misses his wife of 30 years since she died of cancer two years ago drop you a note.
Or in other words, celebrate life and don't cry over spilled milk (or wine in this case)!

imcarthur 11-14-2010 02:11 PM

Hmm . . . I guess I should have posted in green because I assumed that the irony was reasonably evident. But rest assured, I will be self-consoled . . . well, I just just might get . . .

Roast is at 89 degrees . . .

(More gratuitous product placements with one that is not even in the stores yet)

RWebb 11-14-2010 02:24 PM

damn, I thought I was going to see an ergonomic analysis of center consoles for Porsches...

- take it back to the retailer - was it corked?

also, change the i to an e in that last bottle...

Por_sha911 11-14-2010 02:24 PM

Ah yes, I missed the glaringly obvious. Happy anniversary. I have some ginger ale over here if you run dry.

I bought it in 2000 & took delivery in 2002. I have 2 mores bottles.

Thank you but there is NO danger of us running dry. ;)

Was the seal on the screw top defective?

Shaun @ Tru6 11-14-2010 02:50 PM

Congratulations on your anniversary but sorry to hear about the wine. I was worried last week opening a 99 Spring Mountain reserve cab but got rather lucky.

What do you think about the remaining 2 bottles?

How bad is bad? I'm curious what you found. Only bottle I've ever had go bad was a nice white burgundy. made good vinegar.

+1. Caring that much about wine is a roller coaster experience. Been there done that. Looks like you're backup plan worked out well :)

javadog 11-14-2010 03:07 PM

I made bœuf bourguignon today. I could have used a bottle of that to drink with it....

Yank the roast, it's done enough for me.

Enjoy,
JR

It tasted very sour & bitter. No relation to a normal wine taste. Oddly it had a strawberry nose. The other 2? Who knows? I will open with backup. Other old wines have survived just as long.

Off to make yorkshire pud . . .

T'ant pis

What did the cork look like? What percent alcohol? I am not so familiar with the Frog wines, but a lot of wine is not made to sit in the bottle too long nowadays.

I have had wine get a bit thin from waiting too long, only one really went bad, musty as heck.

Congrats on the anniversary thing

Careful on the roast, it will continue to cook out of the oven. pull it before 120 and let sit for a good 10 minutes.

have a great night!

vash 11-14-2010 03:46 PM

happy anniversary!!! if you and your wife are aging nicely..then forget the wine.

i opened a 4 digit bottle with friends.and it was hideous. still fun, tho.

Je suis impressionné... You just have one ' that does not belong there, as in;

Tant pis, but Happy Anniversary

Tobra 11-14-2010 04:23 PM

long time since high school, je suis desolee

how do you do accents with this stuff?

Gogar 11-14-2010 04:29 PM

Sorry for your loss, Ian. I'm having some Robert Mondavi Cab I got at Target at the impulse end-cap. $8.49 yum!!

imcarthur 11-14-2010 04:32 PM

The rib roast was a perfect medium rare but I only achieved a medium rise on the yorks. The burg was a great match for the beef.

All signals are looking good for later, ;)

btw 17 years of marriage. 20 years together. We have survived & continue to thrive intact . . . thanks for the congrats, guys.

Ian

PS The mic porn was for you, Jeremy. ;)

Gogar 11-14-2010 04:43 PM

Subtle.

Why are you on PPOT on your anniversary? Time for a personal inventory.

P.S. go ahead and price that BAX for me I'll get it.
