Old acquaintance

Seeking opinions or experiences...

Backstory - sorry if it gets a little long..
Thirty years ago and it was the last semester of undergraduate studies. I was a couple of weeks into an ag-engineering course when I noticed this really HOT woman with jet black hair sitting a few rows up. After a few classes, she notices me as well (maybe it was my tongue hanging out?) ;) and invites me to sit with her. It turned out that we had three classes together, got to talking, and became quick friends. We were both a little older than most @ ~25-26. A few weeks later and she says: "My BF is out of the country till next January and I've got a proposition for you"... The short of it comes down to what kids today refer to as a fxxk buddy. Hands down the absolute best semester (and the hottest woman) I ever had! The semester ended all too quickly and that was it, but we ran into each other quite a bit through graduate school and remained friends. Strictly platonic, I regretted not saying more but, kept my agreement. I even picked her up from the hospital after she decided to get her tubes tied and the BF was away. I always looked at the experience as a "two ships passing in the night, stopping to scrape hulls for a while" kind of thing. Over the years we ran into each other professionally, occasionally, but less and less. About 20 years later at a mutual friend's retirement I learned that she'd moved ~400 miles away as her government job here got canceled. Google her, found an email address and we exchanged a few "how's it going" messages. She'd still come to mind now and then..

Present day..
Well, since it's sort of an anniversary of that time, I find myself thinking of her again. I Google again and see she's moved again, re-married and yet a different job. I saw that she's coordinating a conference in here in January. After all this time I've been thinking I'd really like to see her again, and just catch up on how things played out over the years. So, I'm thinking:
1) I could email her again, let her consider it and maybe respond.
2) Leave a note at the hotel desk suggesting lunch or maybe meet for a drink, with my phone number.
3) Just show up at registration and surprise her (If I could tell who she was).
or,
4) Let it be, rather than have a fond memory trashed and possibly creeping her out.

Thoughts?

And.. before anybody asks.. nope, no pictures.

Edit: - Married myself.. stuck with that.. sigh

Missing info.

Like what is your relationship status?

widebody911 11-16-2010 10:12 AM

TL;DR - I'm stalking some chick

Zeke 11-16-2010 10:12 AM

Sounds to me like the best has passed. She doesn't seem too committed to keeping up the correspondence. Still, making yourself available is within reason. I just wouldn't push it too hard.

Like a lot of things form the past, memories and quest are better than what you might get in the present.

porsche4life 11-16-2010 10:14 AM

I'd shoot an email out and not push it too hard....

Fixed it for you..... ;)

If there's more to your temptation than simply "catching up", avoid it and go hug your wife.

Moses 11-16-2010 10:26 AM

I don't get it...

If you felt some connection beyond sport fxxking, why on earth didn't you steal her away from the absentee boyfriend?

McLovin 11-16-2010 10:26 AM

C'mon, you're both are married now (you, not entirely happily, obviously).

Hunting her down, finding her email, making contact with her is not good. But you already know that.

This has bad news written all over it.

I like the "Show up and surprise her" option. What could possibly go wrong?

Gogar 11-16-2010 10:58 AM

Ask your wife what she thinks, and you will have your answer.

Maybe she'll say "Yeah, funny you mention it; because you know what honey? There's this guy who's my old fXXK buddy from college, and I found him on the internet, and I was thinking about contacting him, you know . . . just to catch up. That's ok, right?"

A swift kick in the nads and or some mace....

notmytarga 11-16-2010 11:06 AM

Let's see..... She's divorced and remarried - how many times? Got her tubes tied before having kids. Engaged in recreational, non-commited, behind the back (or not...... worse?) 'activity' with you. Seems a tad deranged.

Sounds like heading into a snakes den compared to the risk of rekindling the intimacy that is missing from your currrent marriage.

Evans, Marv 11-16-2010 11:10 AM

What everybody else has said, +100. I've run into old lady friends over time. Things aren't the same about 99.999% of the time. Look forward, not backwards. If you're not too happy with your marriage at present, that would be something to work on - or make the appropriate changes. I really seriously doubt contacting her would be the smart thing to do.
