Need a cheap / borrow OBDII code reader. West LA/Southbay
The misses "forgot" that her van needed smog...... IN AUGUST!!!
Anyway, the check engine light is on. Need to read and/or reset the code before heading to smog. Anyone have a code reader that I could buy/borrow in West LA/South Bay area? I'd hate to have to buy one of these things, as I only need it once in a blue moon. Let me know. TIA |
Disconnecting the battery usually resets the code. Most Kragens or Pep Boys will do a read for ya, usually w/o a charge.

Walk into a local parts store (Napa, O'Reilly, Pep Boys, etc) and they will usually let you use their scanner in the parking lot. No charge, but you may need to leave a deposit.

If you have a Harbor freight store near by, go pick one up for $40

I have one. Come on over. Bring my floor jack. =-)

I think AutoZone will do it for you for free. But you can still fail if the root cause of the CEL is not addressed and/or the readiness monitors are not all reset.
