Lower Resale Value
Why do some vehicles have a lower resale value, even thought they may be very reliable? For example looking at used 4 door 1/2 ton truck. GM and Toyota are the highest priced with Ford and Dodge having the least resale. I know of many Ford and Dodge trucks that have been very reliable and still driving after many miles. So who/what sets resale value?? And would resale value deter you from buying?

The market sets resale values, of course. The person looking for a long term vehicle can find some great bargains in the "low resale" market...especially if he checks his notions of status at the door.

My guess with Ford it has somethng to do with the numbers built. Also consumer rating with regrads to realabilty and maintence costs?
Rolls Royce and Bentleys have apx 50% depreciation in the first year. Why th eprice is so expensive that if you can afford a used one you can afford a new one. So the price will drop to where the guy who can't quite buy the new one can afford the slightly used one. Also one would think that people of means would keep up the maintence on the car, that is not so, they figure why even bother I can go buy a new one in the next year or two. |
Let us just put it this way most people with serious money will go and buy a 2 year old Luxury car if they buy one at all. Why they want U nouveaux riches to take the depreciation. How do you think they stay wealthy?
BTW this does not apply to the people who would have to work 24/7 spending their money just to put a dent in it. Also OLD Money does not go in for flash, thats for the noveaux's. Did ya ever see a Kennedy in a really expensive auto? |
How would resale value deter you from buying a used one? The market has already adjusted. If a Ford is cheaper now and cheaper later, your cost of ownership may be the same. Buy what YOU like.
Supply plays a HUGE role. So does product cycle. If a new bodystyle just came out in one brand, but not yet the other, their may be a lag in value change. |
It depends upon CULTURE, and what Hollywood decides to spew upon the masses.

No, I'm not PARFing this up. Regional values are a real fact. They just used to be more severe. |
