Bet you could find a 2010 used truck with just a few thousand on the clock for about 8 to 10 K less and still have the warranty. I should relay the story about how the Columbus Ga. Mercedes dealer lied about pulling the engine to fix a recall. Just used blue gue. Billed Mercedes for 5-6 thousand. Case where the stealers stole from themselves.

I didn't say under cost. I said $1K under invoice AND Ford kicked in another $8K in incentives. It ended up $14K or about 25% off sticker. Used F250s (2008/2009) with 50K miles on them are going for $38-39K.

This is a diesel F250 Lariat with pretty much all of the options. I do not care about the 25 hp difference (350 vs. 375-400hp).

I think the new Duramax is close to 400 hp. In 2003 it was around 360.

If you're savvy, you'll PM Kaisen and ask him to broker a deal for you. He will save you money and get you the best deal in the world. How do I know? I the past year he has bought for me:

1) 2007 Honda Odyssey (cabin vehicle/family tansport); 2) 2008 Mercedes E350 Sport 4Matic with full leather (wifey's car); 3) 2003 Audi RS6 (The Beast and my daily driver); and 4) 2001 Audi S4 (track toy).

If you call him you'll thank me later. Seriously.

A-Plan is now only a couple hundred under invoice, and only if they participate in regional advertising witholding. It's AT invoice if they don't.

The dealer I bought my Edge from went $1000 under A plan price to save the cost of fetching the one I specced out from another dealer. Before that, it was about a $2,800 drop from invoice; X plan was about half that difference.

It was a 10 minute transaction handled over the phone, that alone made it all worthwhile.

That was about like my Truck purchase. Internet price, no negotiating, 25% under MSRP. Just come by and pick the truck you want. They had 5 left at that point. Only 2 now, 3 weeks later...

You got a great deal. Five years from now there will be very little difference in value between a 2010 and 2011. Saving thousands now is smart. Your cost of ownership will be less, and you'll never miss the difference in power unless you really haul big loads.

The whole industry is going to end up 'one-price', eventually. A good deal without hassle makes everyone happy. It's long been my belief that the auto sales process is backwards. Happy customers return, and refer others.

red-beard 11-20-2010 08:43 AM

Yep. 25-50 HP vs about $8K. No question...

speeder 11-20-2010 08:52 AM

HP figures are close to meaningless w/ diesels. What was the jump in torque? The new one has 800 lbs./ft. from what I understand. I'm guessing that the 2010 has 100 less. 700 is still a boatload of torque, though.

Actually the industry up here is like that now. All the small town dealerships (GM)are owned by one family. Prices are the same no matter where you buy from. I bought my last truck in 08. It was $10,000 cheaper to buy it in the USA so I did.

If you have a AAA membership, simply call them, they'll call the dealer in your state that does their special pricing, and you can get it for no haggling at 1-2% over the dealer cost. Friend got a '09 forrester in '08 for $22k, another got a 2010 big dodge cummins dooley that was close to loaded last spring for $43k

Let's see.... 1-2% over invoice on a $50K Diesel Duallie..... $500-1000 over invoice. Yeah, that's exactly why you DON'T do that unless you are really bad at handling yourself in negotiations. Or your time is worth more than your money.

"Special pricing" is code for "the dealer just paid AAA $225 for the sold lead". Same with Sam's Club, but it's not per lead, it's per month ... regardless if the dealer gets a sale from it or not. That's exactly how it works. It is a revenue center for the lead provider.

The Honda is a pansy truck compared to the other trucks mentioned here....
