Cranberry glass is pigmented with gold - or so I've been told
and will fetch a high price - which would be real nice for the seller of such - for some its not much but for me its a dream - I drink milk not cream... |
In all seriousness, it is pigmented with gold chloride - interesting reaction actually. Glass is a liquid at room temperature and the gold is actually suspended in colloid fashion in the glass. The gold chloride has a beautiful blood red hue and is stable at high temps when mixed in with the molten glass.
That is a beautiful set - exquisite actually. We have some small pieces of Cranberry crystal but a full set of glasses and decanter are very rare for that period. That is all hand blown. very nice work in deed! |
