My brother had a 944, 928, Audi A6 then a NSX past 4 years or so.
He loves the NSX.

Italian styling???? Nah.

Japanese interpretation of Italian Styling.

Like a lot of Japanese cars, just awkward enough to loose the edge. Not a cohesive design. Bland. 'Hondaish'.

I don't care for it. My opinion.

Also, I don't like engines with modest hp and no stinkin' torque.

A car dear to my heart.

I put 75,000 Km on my NSX over the course of six or seven years.
(45,000 miles)

Having a low roof hitting your head every time you go over a bump in the name of aerodynamics and styling is out of the question. (unless you are over 6' tall)

Although it's true I had thought it would have been better to put a larger engine,
no sheet, Sherlock

Both the body and suspension are aluminum, and it probably couldn't be helped that journalists' attention has been focused on praising the aluminum body. However, the suspension is the much more impressive use of aluminum.
It's lightweight, tough, yet compliant.
(3100 pounds is light for a two door, two passenger 6 cylinder car? Not by my standards. For a little car it's a pig.

The low-slung NSX's driver's seat position also provided just the right head clearance and an amazing field of view. (for a midg.... uh I mean a little person)

There are a few things that could be improved on the NSX. First, the tires are too soft. Over the seven years I ran mine, I went through 14 sets of tires ( in 45,000 miles, that's 3200 miles per sets of tires. HORRIBLE!.
That guy, although passionate, is not a journalist in any sense of the word.
He tries too hard to paint a picture that simply isn't true. It is a fine sports-car, a very good sports-car,but it is no super-car. Not with less horsepower than the wife's old honda pilot.

Would buy one in a heart beat if garage space and finances permits

pwd72s 11-23-2010 05:56 PM

As one who presents a vertical and circumference challenge to small cars, I'm fairly certain that the NSX and my 6'3" 250 pounds are incompatible...

As Sammy said..."little people" would be happy in one.

Thank god for that. He's one of the best automotive engineers in the world, whereas a journalist can be a complete idiot, as long as he or she can spell and diagram a sentence....

I think what dooms the NSX is it's about 80% of what an exotic should be. It just doesn't quite get there in looks, on the spec sheet, measured against the stop watch, etc.

Which is a real shame, given that Honda has made some pretty exotic race cars (remember the F1 cars from the '60's?) and umpteen of the world's best exotic street and race motorcycles. They've got the engineering ability and have often led the world in technology of one sort or another.

NSX with a blower and some big, sticky tires I would be a happy camper.

I am 5'10" and about a buck eighty five, I would fit fine.

I like the pop up headlights better.

...

uh.... no, Gordon Murray is not a journalist.

Do you know who he IS???

Google his name - or do a search for it on here.

He is up there with old man Porsche maybe. One of the finest supercar engineers & designers in the world.

aigel 11-23-2010 11:28 PM

These are extremely common in L.A. and they have not aged well in the looks department IMHO. They leave me completely cold. I would buy a Miata before getting one of these. Better bang for the buck. ;)

The styling doesn't do it for me. Looks like a Ford Probe. Or rather a Ford Probe looks like an NSX.

sca037 11-24-2010 06:27 AM

We have two (a nearly stock one and an insanely turbocharged one), and love the heck out of them both.
Mr. Murray was right, the car has been proven that it can handle up to 600rwhp very well indeed.

As someone who share a similar body structure as you (Hey - I'm big boned, OK??!), I must say that where there is a will, there is a way.

I had a Toyota MR2 for a couple of years, and had little problem getting into and driving that car, once I learned the nuiances of orgami.

Seriously - though I am tall and (ok, I'll say it) fat, I've never had a problem finding space in small cars, with one exception: the Mazda Miata. Mid-engined cars allow the engineers to pull forward the footwell, giving us tall folks a bit more legroom.

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to hit Yahoo cars and search for an NSX and C5Z06 in my area -- just don't tell my wife!!

-Z-man.

pwd72s 11-24-2010 11:16 AM

Legroom is often a problem for me...I buy jeans with a 34" inseam. Headroom also. Before I bought the Mustang, thought I might like a 370Z, since the auto press gave them raves. Tried to sit in one...no go.

So many neat cars are made for the 5'10" and under set...:(

But then, driving comfortably has moved up on my desireable features in cars list these days.

Agreed. I'm 6" 2" and what's always amazed me is the head and leg room my SC provides in such a compact design.

BEFORE all wheel drive came out, the 911 variants had great legroom for we bigger fellas. On the early all wheel drive cars, I didn't fit...the space needed for the front wheels drive gear was partially taken from legroom. Ditto Boxsters...to ride in one, my knees are bent severely...and forget it for me driving one of those chick cars. Dunno if the 997's have more legroom, but the 996's were definitely short in legroom.

RWebb 11-24-2010 01:13 PM

if you were going to spend $$$ to hotrod an NSX, maybe a rufster would be a better way to go??

I disagree. Nothing about it speaks Italian to me. To my eye, the styling cues are taken from aviation. Put a fighter plane on the tarmac, flank it with the sexiest Italian of your choice (with one exception) and an NSX, then take a look.

The exception is the Enzo, which I also see as a design taking a lot of cues from aircraft.

Traveller 01-03-2011 05:51 AM

I was actually looking at one of these along with a F360 and a few others. I chose a 993.

The rear end of the car never did a thing for me and I am sure the styling would have worn off on me after a short while. Same for the interior.

dennis in se pa 01-03-2011 06:29 AM

I had one for awhile. Sold a Boxster and bought a 95 NSX-T. Red/Tan. Great car. Changed jobs and did not want to be a slave to car payments, so I sold the car a year later. I would get another. And yes - they do hold their value. The one in the video is a pre-targa version.

Times were good when this pic was taken. I am in real estate. Hopefully things will soon pickup.
