Will you do me a favor?

Hey Guys, I have started to do knife/gun/gear reviews on YouTube.. I will also be doing my recipes on video to make them a little easier to post without all the typing... Anyways, I know this video is a little long, but if you have time give it a view and just post a critique here on Pelican on how I can improve on my videos.. I sure would appreciate it...

3:15...I was done...sorry Chinese doesn't cut it (no pun intended)
Research your product and be sure of what you're stating.
My feelings...real men don't wear gloves. Something my dad told me when I was 14/15...I know its a different world, but...
Speak quickly, and keep me interested.
Observations from a West Coast hunter(we may be used to a different cadence in speaking)...that said...when I'm in the flyover states hunting, and people speak at that pace...I really enjoy it, it adds alot.
Good luck! Interested in other opinions!

Nice Job, Bill!

1. Type the info and print out on a piece of paper, don't write with a Sharpie. Better yet, once you get good with your video software, you could make the info show up on the screen as subtitles.

If you think you're going to do a lot of these, make a really simple outline like

a. overview
b. features
c. in use
d. overall

etc., then you can apply the same style to different products and people will understand the way 'you' think better, across products that are seemingly unrelated.

Even farther, make your outline into subtitles and insert it into the video, and try to pace yourself to X amount of minutes or seconds per outline section.

2. Don't tell the 'whole story' if you don't have to. You had two knives, one in the box for your daughter, and one you've been using for a few years,

Instead of telling the 'daughter' story, you could show what 'one in the box' looks like, and then you could give your review of 'the field-tested knife' and how great it's been.

3. If you're the authority in this review of the knife, try to stay away from words like "i think", and "maybe", and "i don't know."

Sorry if that's too much opinion, I just had a glass of wine ohhh yeah.

I only watched 2 minutes then scrubbed thru the rest but I'm willing to bet the entire 12 minutes could be done in 2.

Think about your average commercial, it's 30 seconds and packs in more product info detail.

I tell my marketing and sales staff "what are the 3 things that you can tell someone in the 5 seconds that you have their attention?" If you have not hooked them by then they are not sticking around for the rest.

Write your copy and rehearse it, then rehearse it, then rehearse it some more. Time yourself. Set a limit of 5 minutes and work down from there. 1-2 minutes should be your target. Short clips will help build a following.

Thanks for the input so far fellas... I did the notebook deal to seem a little less " digital"... I have a review to do tomorrow on the SOG Tech bowie... I will implement the changes that you have suggested (including the speaking and content areas) and will post it on this thread tomorrow. I know I sound like a hick, but I will try to curve my enthusiasm lol... I appreciate your help in sharpening (no pun intended) my videos.... BTW, the reason I am wearing gloves is two fold... one to protect my hands from the blades and the other to hide the scarring that I have on my hands from all of the sun/freon damage (I am self conscious of it).... I have the skin of a 70yr old man in my mind...

Bill,
I listened to a couple of minutes of it. It needs to be shortened, speeded up, and all of the extra off the wall and unnecessary comments eliminated. The guys who have posted already have made some great comments. I was thinking of a professor I had who would take a paper from his students, read it, and give it back and say, "Cut it in half, but include the same information." Then he would do that a couple more times before he would accept it. It was a PITA but boy did it teach me a lot about eliminating unnecessary content. That might be a good approach for editing and improving your videos. Good on ya for doing those.

Okay, I was able to shave about 4 minutes off my review time... I also deep sixed the note pad and the gloves that looked like they were from a wet suit set... I still need to shave about 2-3 minutes off my review times... I added a part two and three to this video, but they are pretty much just thanking you guys and story telling...
