My Bro in Law has a car that interests me is all. He would get me anything from the USA if I wanted. We have done this before. A USA car in Canada is sort of like a ROW car. It's not like it is branded or anything but it is not the same as a Canadian car to some. Warranty while not an issue in this case comes into play in some cases.

I wish I had a picture to show it but the input here definately has me thinking. I sure did like the driving experience this car has. Handles sharp, very responsiv and fun.

I don't think I have ever seen a BMW with clear coat issues. Yeah, maybe they can blend the areas, but without knowing the underlying cause, what is to say it won't pop up some where else?

Sounds like you are already rationalizing! :D
To me, it wouldn't matter how "gentle" the hit/damage was. If it was re-painted (for any reason) it would be a no-go. Too many unmolested examples out there to settle for that. If it wasn't re-painted (hard to fathom), it is a rare factory defect, and would carry the same stigma (de-valuation). I would head the advise in this thread.

Here are a couple just North of Toronto that might be worth a look:

Being in Canada, any Euro spec E36 M3's available locally?

Reg 11-30-2010 10:53 AM

So the story is that the dentist backed the car into a landscape rock in his yard. He paid out of pocket to fix it (save an ins. claim) as the damage was cosmetic only and fixed for about $1000 a year or two ago. The shop did a crap job on the clear coat so bro in law will have it fixed should I buy it.

Again, 5 avail. in Ontario for cheaper but all have twice the miles (and how many owners) and another 40 avail that all cost more - that I do not know who I am buying from.

Hmmmmm.

Also a not a bad idea to compare options with the others available. For `02, you had the following options available:

*Premium package (a must have IMO)
*Cold weather package (not a bad idea for your locale)
*SMG
*Park distance control (rear back-up sensors)
*Bi-xenon headlights
*HK premium sound
*Navigation
*rear airbags
*metallic paint

A fully-optioned car went for around $11k more than a bare-bones example, when new.

Car has the premium sound, no smg, no nav, not sure about the others but it is 18" wheels and think it had the cold weather pkg. No strut bar.

The deal is the Mrs. says no. :( So I had to pass to keep the peace. If I can smooth her over maybe I can still grab it up but there are other buyers for the car.

You guys out there who have Mrs. that dig cars, give em a hug.

Generally I would say, "that sucks", but she might have helped you dodge a bullet in this instance.

still looking atthe car - she came around somewhat. I have the service records for the car for the most part. If anyone here knows how to read them please have a look at the link above and chime in.

FWIW I found a reallly sweet examply with 40,000km never seen winter/rain triple mint but it is + $10000+ on this car.
