Latest spoon projects.

This started out as a Marlin M25 in .22 mag. and restocked in flame maple...

The one on the left is a Savage 110 -.223 that I refinished to look like walnut...it's birch!

Lots of flame all the way from front to back and on both sides.

Great work! I have a vintage Slingerland drumset in Birch that is finished with Cherry stain. I love the way Birch looks!

Great work...

Do you make the stocks from scratch?

Well in a word kind of. I start with rough cut out from either my wood or others. I farm that out although I do have a machine that will duplicate any stock. I take it from there. The final shaping and inletting are done by me as well as the finish.

Good stuff.

At a craft fair I saw a piece of English Walnut rough shaped for a rifle sitting on a sellers table. The guy wanted $3,000 for it!

Do you do hand carving as well? I always liked that look on old shot guns and I find it realy helps get a good grip on the gun.

Restocking........

Nice work! I enjoy seeing nice wood on a blued rifle. Also nice to have a unique piece. I like the rifle with the faux walnut....nice job.

Some years ago, I wanted to see if I could re-stock a rifle, in this case a Winchester Low Wall. It started out as a .22 short Winder Musket which had been reblued and drilled for scope blocks. Of course, this pretty well ruined the collector value. It has now been relined and chambered for .22 mag and has a single set trigger. The wood started out as a full length uncut blank and (very) slowly took the shape you see here. I started to put a Schutzen style butt plate on it, but went with the rubber pad instead. It will put 5 shots in about 1/2" at 100 yds on a good day! The finish is oil with lots of coats carefully hand rubbed into the wood.

Pete do you mean checkering? yes I checker. But now that I am closing in on 60, my eyes just can't do anything finer than say 18 lines per inch. I hate it, but I do it.

I wanted to do a gun in mesquite wood once, but a piece the size i needed was $6,000.00! Not in my lifetime!

Fred that looks great! Who cares about collectors value when it's yours for keeps! All my work is hand rubbed oil. I use Truoil.

Yes checkering. Couldn't think of the name.

18 lines per inch aint so bad ;)
