The M-Audio stuff is pretty decent from what I've heard. Looks like they also make a firewire version for the same price, and both are available cheaper thru Amazon:

I'd check out the TC and E-mu units as well (both feature up to 192khz sampling):

The other advantage for going with the software/systems I mentioned earlier is the great user support. They can tell you which interfaces/mics work best with each system, and have already tested most of them for quality/compatibility. Liberty Instruments (PRAXIS) even has a complete kit available.

Either way, if the trial versions of those programs will give you what you need, I'd probably go that route over a possibly less accurate/lower quality freeware offering.

I really can't argue with this. I looked into the software I mentioned above & it uses a handheld spl meter as input, so that wont work - although it might be interesting to try it.
