Smartphone insurance with Asurion ?
Anyone use this service? I signed up for the Verizon equipment protection program when I bought my Droid. Some of the keys fell off, and now they want an $89 deductible to replace the phone... on top of the $6/month I've been paying. So I'd be out $160 for this service.
I can buy a like new droid on craigslist for $140 or less. Is there anyway to get around this? Or did I screw myself by signing up for the "insurance"? ![]()

Yep, the exact reason I dropped my carrier's phone "insurance" a couple years ago. I had a Palm Treo go belly-up and they wanted $120 deductable to send me a refurbished phone! Even back then I could have sourced one NIB from CL/ebay for that amount or less. I inquired to the high deductible, and they said there where two deductible "tiers". Cheap phones were like $75 and "higher-end" (smart) phones were $120. I cancelled that crap immediately. Consequently, I called Palm (business support) directly who replaced the unit for free.

That explains why the store made a big deal of the insurance for my WinPhone being the lower tier I guess. I didn't really get it at the time.

I guess I'll call motorola then.
I think its criminal that carriers can sell you a two year contract on hardware which won't last that long under normal usage.
