How do you make a copy of a news video?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/573557-im-tv.html

In the link is a video that my son was in, my wife wants me to put it on a DVD to save for the future. Can this be done?

Pazuzu 12-02-2010 02:52 PM

Contact the news station, they *sometimes* will get you a digital copy.

peppy 12-02-2010 02:56 PM

One of The ladies has tried that, they said the TV station was not eager to make a copy.

That's a good question.

Our son was in the news for winnng the Lowcountry Splash open water swim here in Charleston. We recorded it on our DirectTV recorder, but how do we get in on a DVD or computer?

I'm sure these guys aren't cheap and they're probably B2B only. But they are the main game in town for getting video clips.

Maybe this can help you:

How to record/download/capture/save Adobe Flash .FLV video HTTP stream from embedded player

Technically, it is 'opened' in your browser's temp file. I have played YouTube videos & then gone on a file search. The file is the last big one played in the associated temp file. It always has some massive name. You can rename it with an flv extension. That gives you a file you can play with VLC or similar. As for converting to DVD, that is another story but doable.

Now what I really wanna know... is how to save somethign that streams using Microsoft's Silverlight...

You can use a plugin called Download Helper for firefox and it should work. I downloaded the video in under a minute (It's approximately 22MB.) If you are having problems downloading it, I can put it on a dvd and mail it to you or I can upload it to a filesharing website.

I got it.....thanks

Is the video jerky for you? I downloaded it with 2 programs and they both came out the same.

+1 for download helper. I have a little shell script that converts anything downloaded to DVD format and creates the iso image ready to burn...

When peppy said Safari, I thought it was an Apple/Mac type product.

I'm still not sure if any of the answers given help to transfer a recording off a DirecTV converter can be done? Maybe while it's playing it can be recorded off the TV onto a laptop?
