Any Football Coaches Here?

Having failed miserably in my job search, I've decided that it may be time for a career change; I'm considering seeking a position (paid or not) with a local MS/HS team and seeing where it goes . . . I have a good grasp of the details of the game but lack actual experience other than those glory days when I was 12 (HS didn't have football). I believe I could handle a coordinator's job on a local level now but wouldn't consider holding even an FCS coordinator's clipboard until gaining more experience.

Anyone else considered or pursued this line? Being a grumpy old man, would I end up beating the younger players for having sass-mouths?

I strongly recommend you try it. I did a lot of coaching. Everyone benefits. Not just the players....

you could get into officiating HS sports, you even get paid to do it.

You should get your teaching credentials and offer to coach as well.

Not as profitable as you would think. HS, you don't get any of the good games for a couple of years. Youth games on the weekends is where ya make money. 4-5 games back to back.

Depending on the ref association, you can have some HOA type Nazis who run the thing. The guys who kiss ass get the good games. Otherwise it's 50-0 games until you learn to pucker up.

You are an independent contractor. You get hurt, it's your dime. You get blindsided illegally you can't sue.....ask me how I know.

I had fun but it cost me my everything when I got hurt.

I'm more interested in the team & strategy aspects of the game rather than the management provided by officiating. Besides, as an official I'd probably end up tackling someone . . .

Try not to get too personally involved:

Sal Alosi, the New York Jets strength and conditioning coach, is shown tripping Miami Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll, who was covering a punt in the third quarter of Miami's 10-6 win Sunday, December 12, 2010,

Alosi has been suspended by the team without pay for the rest of the season, including the playoffs, and fined an additional $25,000.
